He drives an automobile that can be run right into the hotel, carted upstairs in the elevator, guided into the bedroom, and parked in the corner of the room for the night. And if, perchance, there is a horse in the highway this driver can simply pass the horse by driving under the four-legged animal. All day Tuesday, Ray Albright, maker, owner and driver of what is said to be the world's smallest auto mobile was in Brevard, driving and demonstrating the small machine, which has a Tour cylinder motor, 10 horse power engine, four speed gear. 68-inch wheel base, and will run 60 miles an hour. The machine weighs 500 pounds and is an all-steel af fairs, using a tire 16x4. The car has been run 78,000 miles, covering the United States from the lakes to the gulf. There is room for but one passen ger in the car, and when the driver is seated in the little automobile, his head is about even with the waist line of the average man. It has been run, the owner stated, ever since Oct. 1, 1923, when Mr. Al bright perfected the car at Indian apolis. A & P TRUCK TURNS OVER; ATTRACTS NO ATTENTION Rush W. Whitmire reports an un usual experience, when he saw an A. & P. truck lying by the roadside on highway No. 20. Hickory Nut Gap section, which had turned over in attempting to make one of the sharp curves there. He investigated, and saw a man lying in the cab of the truck apparently dead, and this im pression was emphasized later when the man failed to respond to calls made by Mr. Whitmire. The Brevard man finally succeeded in working his way into the cab of the overturned truck to a point where he could touch the man. The driver was asleep it developed, and was awakened when Mr. Whitmire touched him. The truck, according to the driver, had turned over ?ome time just be fore daylight. At the f! ' it.v word had been sent into Ashe ville for assistance. While waiting for help, tV driver said he crawled back into the cab for his truck, anxi ous to see if people who were passing would stop to investigate. Don't kid yourself: those are my feet! GROGAN FAMILY'S NARROW ESCAPE W. H. Grogan, Jr., Mrs. Grogan and Rev. Mac Grogan, bad a narrow escape from drowning Tuesday while bahting in Davidson River. None of Grogans are good swimmers, it is said, and were learning to swim in the moTe shallow places, when Mr. Grogan unintentionally entered the deep water,. He had gone the third time, when bis son, Mac started to his father's rescue. When the son struck deep water he, too began sinking. TV> mother, Mrs. Grogan, saw her son going down and she started to him, not knowing that her husband was under the water or even in danger. She reached her son, took him by his hand, and he pulled her into the doep water. i Other swimmers nearby rushed to the rescue of the family and saved them from drowning. A Mr. Lyday, It is said, dived for Mr. Grogan and brought him out, while others brought Mrs. Grogan and her 6on | to saf/.y.
