mm give all ; FACTS ABOUT TWO ; DISPUTED FACTS I i '] (Continued from page one) \ that the bank bought the note, the money for which is in the bank, be ing paid out regularly for school 1 work and road work. The other muchly mooted question j concerns the part that it is alleged that Mr. McNeely took in location : of the state highway leading into ; Jackson county. Mr. McNeely has contended all along, it is claimed, that he favored the route from Ros ? man by Gloucester bridge into Jack son county. Others have charged that Mr. McNeely favored the route that was adopted, from Toxaway to Jackson county line. While it would have been to Mr. McNeely's personal interest for the road to go from Toxaway, yet he, as an official of the county, stated that the best route for the most people was that turn- . ing from the Rosman road by Glou- ' cester bridge. Mr. Shipman's letter also gives tho infovmtaion that Mr., McNeely so stated his position to Commissioner Stikeleather, when the question of the route was being considered. In order to get all ; these facts before the people in their : true light, this article is being pub- j lished, along with letters from Chairman Pickelsimer to Mr. Ship- ! man, and the latter's reply to Mr. 1 Pickelsimer, bearing out Mr. Mc Neely's statement about the matters involved. The letters are herewith pub lished: Pickeltim?r'? Letter "Mr. Thomas H. Shipman "Brevard, N. C. "Dear Sir.? "There seems to be some misun 'clerStanding over the County rela tive to the $100,000.00 in short term notes borrowed by the County Commissioners in Sept. last on the Anticipation of 1930 Taxes to the effect that it was $150,000 and that the notes were purchased by Jos. S. Silversteen and also as to certain other statements made relative to to the conversation between two of our Board at Mr. Stikeleather's of fice, as you will recall that Mr. Stikeleather called you from the street and asked you to come into the conference knowing that you were interested in the road projects over the county. "Since there is a misunderstand ing we have been misquoted I will ask that you state what Mr. Mc Neely said to Mr. Stikeleath|e(r about the road going from Owens gap to Lake Toxaway, also, as to the information as to the last paper sold by our county and who purchas ed same and for what purpose the loan was made. "Our Board feels that you will be fair to us in this matter regard less of politics. Awaiting your ad vice in this matter, I am, "Yours very truly, "J. H. PICKELSIMER. "Chairman Board of County Commissionesr." October 16th, 1930. Shipman'* Reply "Mr. J. H. Pickelsimer, Chairman "Board of County Commissioners, "Transylvania County, "Brevard, N. C. "Dear Sir: "This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 16th stating that there seemed to be some mis understanding as to the amount of paper your Board sold last month, and also as to certain statements fiade by Mr. McNeely to Mr, Stike eather in my presence. "As to the amount of paper you old la3t month will state the amount tas $100,000.00 of tax anticipating lotes that were sold to the Brevard Banking Company and the money is low on deposit with us to be used n paying teachers, also for other >urpo3es and is to be repaid out of he tax levy for 1930. "As to the conversation between VIr. McNeely and Mr. Stikeleather ;hat Mr. Stikeleather called me in :rom the Street to discuss with you jentlemen the road situation in this :ounty. Mr. Stikeleather asked Mr. McNeely as to which location he pre ferred; from Owen's Gap to Lake Foxaway or to the bridge over the fiver connecting with the new road built to the Gloucester bridge. Mr. McNeely told Mr. Stikeleather that Dfficially he thought the road should go to the river bridge as it would serve more people by going that route, but that personally it would be to his interest for the road to go to Lake Toxaway as he has property at that pace. "Hoping this is the desired infor mation, I am. "Very truly yours, "THOS. H. SHIPMAN." Oct. 17th, 1930.
