JORDAN WHITMIRE, Editor J ?- ? 1 1 1 . . - 1 " . c MISS LENA O'SHIELDS PASSES AWAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS Miss Lci?a O'Shields, aged 15, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Daniels Thursday night, June 25. Funeral services were conducted at Zion Baptist church by Rev. Nath an Chapman on the following day. Miss O Shields was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. O'Shields and had been a great sufferer for several months, receiving treatment at Mis sion Hospital in Asheville and Six, Mile Hospital in South Carolina. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and: Mrs. J. A. O'Shields, and the follow ing brothers, Walter, Earl, Elmer, | Lester, and Alfred, and one sister, Ollie Mae, besides a large number of ! other relatives. ALL DAY SINGING AT MIDDLE FORK BAPTIST CHURCH \ An all day singing will be held at! Middle Fork Baptist church the Sec ond Sunday in July. A number of singers from Tryon and other places will be present. All singers in the county arc invited to be present and bring a basket lunch, as dinner will be served on the ground during the noon hour. REV. VASCO MAN LEY TO PREACH AT MIDDLE FORK Rev. Vasco Manley will preach at Middle Fork Baptist church next Sunday night at eight o'clock. The public is cordially invited to attend the service. ADAMS-CANNON The following, taken from The. Pickens Sentinel will be of interest to many people in Transylvania county. Dr. Ruhl Cannon is a form er Rosman boy, grandson of Mrs. S. E. Whitmire: Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Adams announce the marriage of their daughter Ethel Clara to Dr. Ruhl Cannon Sunday, June twenty-first nineteen hundred and thirty-one Greenwood, South Carolina This announcement is of unusual interest in Pickens. The happy event took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Singleton, Edgefield avenue, Greenwood. The bride wore a stunning travel ing dress of white and blue. A white blouse was worn with dark blue coat and skirt of becoming lines, and with them, blue and white gloves, dark blue hat. and carried a pocketbook of the same color. Her flowers were a corsage of sweet peas. Mr. and Mrs. Cannon are among the very finest young people of the community and both are unusually popular. The bride is attractive ol person and manner, and has a clever mind and pleasing disposition. For several years she has been a very efficient stenographer here. The bridegroom is a son of Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Cannon, and is a pharmacist at the Keowee Pharmacy where his efficiency and courtesy have not only made many friends for that store but for himself. Outside of business his conduct is also al ways beyond reproach. He is a clean cut citizen of sterling worth. Friends are wishing for them a long, happy and useful life. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Cannon left for a short wedding trip and will be at home in Pickens to their many friends upon their return. FROM MR. RANDOLPH It gave me much pleasure in hav ing the privilege to serve the people at Cathey's Creek as leader of the singing class during the revival ser vices last week. I wish to thank each one of the class for their fine spirit of coopera tion in helping to make each service better. Also for the kind hospitality that we had the pleasure of enjoying in each home we visited. May the Lord continue his rich blessings on Brother Chapman and his pastorial work at Cathey's Creek. E. D. Beginning at the northeast corner of a lot of land conveyed by Joseph Hamilton to Robert McCall and on the East side of sword Creek, and runs East 56 poles with said McCall's lipe to a stake; thence North 100 poles to a bunch of Maples; thence West 56 poles to a post Oak; thence South 100 poles to the Beginning, containing 35 acres more or less. M. j Green is pastor of this church. CALVERT W. M. U. MEETING The Woman's Missionary Union of Calvert Baptist church met at the home of Mrs. J. V. Gillespie on Tues day of last week. The president, Mrs. R. L. Hogged, lead the devotion als and had charge of the program. Nine members were present, all tak ing part in the very interesting pro gram on the Hick Memorial. The so- | Iciety decided to send one dollar per i member, ten dollars, to the memorial j fund. Next regular meeting will be held j at the church on July 21 at 2:30 p.m; J with Mrs. J. F. Morgan in charge of \ the program. LADIES AID SOCIETY The Ladies Aid Society of Zion Baptist church met at the home of Mrs. Joe Galloway on June 24th with nine members present. The usual program was carried out and the so ciety voted to have an ice cream sup per in the near future. The meeting adjourned to meet at the home of Mrs. A. M. Paxton in two weeks. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY DINNER I A surprise birthday dinner was held at the home of Mrs. Sarah Nel >son on Sunday. Mrs. Nelson's chil idren and friends from the two Caro linas joined in making this event a success. About 78 guests were pres ent and a very enjoyable occasion was reported.
