f THE PRAYER CORNER ] ik_ a \mrn. ( Froni the Files of Long Ago) IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS" "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus con-| cerning you." ? Thess. 5:18 - On Thanksgiving evening I read a poem with the above title, and said, "I must share this with my readers, for we all need it." 1. This saying is a hard one, Hea venly Father ? "In everything give thanks'', in everything. How can I thank Thee for this crushing sorrow? And how can I rejoice and praise and sing? . * >! 2. This burden is too heavy for my shoulders; it presses sore; I bow be ' neath.the load; and long the way has been o'er which I journeyed; and full of briars and thorns has been the road. v 3. Yea, bleeding are my feet ? see, jMKhou, my Father! And tattered is my ^?^ainment, worn so long; and battered the winds and stormy tempest ! hide me, in my shame, amid Earth's ' throng. 4. Thou hast said it, O Most Holy Father ? ''In everything give thanks" ? And fain would I obey Thee from the heart, where lips are silent; and on their promises I would reply. 1 5. "Come unto Me'- ? I come to Thee my Savior! "My Grace is sufficent" ? Lord I believe! "I never will forsake, thee'' ? Yea, Lord, never! Peace I leave with you" ? I will no more grieve. 6. "Child, cast thy burden on me'-? | Dear Lord take it!" I will sustain thee" ? I accept Thy word. "Lean in ; me" ? I would be meek and lowly. "Ye shall find rest" ? I'll rest on Thee My i Lord! 7. "In everything give thanks.-' Oh, do Thou teach me to .praise Thy ! name, O God. when billows roll! Heedless of thorn and briar, and | storm and tempests. "I'll press to- . ward the goal. 8. I'd thank Thee when the thund- j ers roar above me; I'd than|^ Thee i when griefs fires about me glow; I'd i thank Thee when the friends of life' may leave me; I'd thank Thee when the ice winds o'er me blow. Let Thine own will be done in me. 0 Father! My will I would have moulded into Thine. Do unto me as Thou wilt, but hold me, keep me ? [ Thy will be done, 0 God ? not mine, j .4 PRAYER FOR THE n //,/, Of GOD 0, Thou, who wilt not break the bruised reed nor quench the smoking flame, give us grace to give thanks in everything, for it is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning us. ' 0 most holy Father, Thou has said "In most everything give thanks", and we would fain obey Thee from the heart, where our lips are silent and on Thy promises we would rely. Hast Thou hot said, O most mer ciful Jesus, Come unto me''. We come to Thee, Our Savior. "My grace suf ficient is". Lord we believe. "I never will forsake thee"' Yes Lord, never "Peace I leave with thee." We1 will grieve no more. Hast Thou not bidden us, "Cast thy burden on me." Lord take it. "I will sustain thee." We accept Thy word. Thou hast said, "Lean thou on me." We would be meek and lowly. "Ye shall find rest." We'll rest on Thee our Lord. Oh, do Thou teach us to praise Thy name when billows roll, heedless of thorn and briar, storm and tempest, to press toward the mark, and reach the goal. The plea of abatement and order in Buncombe Superior Court by Judge Cameron F. State Corpora- 1 tion Commission, for conspiracy to permit an insolvent bank to remain open, will be tried in Wake county, . where the members of the commission i reside. Gamble signing Mr. Lee's bond. The records and papers in the case will be transferred to Wake County. Be lief is that a special term of court will be called for the cases, Solicitor J. C. Little saying that they cannot be reached at the regular December > term. Misfeasance, nonfeasance and mal- ' feasance in office are charged against the four men, in addition to the gen eral conspiracy charge, that they al lowed the Central Bank & Trust Co., Asheville, and the Biltmore-Oteen Bank, Biltniore, to remain open after they were insolvent. Both banks failed in November, 1930. Business (joes where it is wanted ? tell thou through The Brevard News. CONDITIONS CLEAR UP FOR SPORTSMEN i Rains Cause Ban on Hunting To Be Lifted by the State j Officials ? ] Raliegh, Nov. 23 ? Rains and prom ise of more general showers ware largely responsible for the decision 01 the Department of Conservation and Development not to place further re strictions on hunting or postponing the hunting season, because of the de struction wrought by forest fires in many sections of the State during the past few weeks. But, in announcing the decision, Director J. W. Harrelson issued a plea to hunters to be careful and avoid responsibility for further fire damage. The continued dry weather, the dry dead leaves and in flammable condition of the woods gave officials deep concern. The season opened Friday for four popular games and birds, rabbits, quail, wild turkeys and doves (second section of dove season), in addition to the duck season which opened at noon, November 16. Hunting licenses required of all hunters except those hunting on their own lands, are ex pected to take an upward swing with the opening of the season. Human carelessness, led by care less smokers, was responsible for all 134 fires reported in October in the counties cooperating in forest fire prevention, the report of the forestry division shows. These fires covered an estimated 4,926 acres and caused an estimated loss of $13,572, large in young forest growth. Forty-three of the fires were attributed to careless smokers, 36 to campers, hunters and fishermen, 15 to incendiarism, 18 to unknown causes; 15 Miscellaneous; 5 to brush burners, 2 to railroads. Fires in non-cooperating counties will greatly increase the acreage and damage, as will those that have been raging in many sections in November CANXOT DEDUCT HOVSFXG COST FROM INCOME TAX Raleigh, Nov. 2:j ? Cost of erecting a community house in an industrial community for the employes and others is not an "ordinary and nec essary expense" of the plan and is not deductable in computing the in come tax, the Attorney General's of fice, in an opinion, by Assistant At holds. The opinion was in the case torney General A. A. F. Seawell of the Marion Manufacturing Co., Marion, which held that such cost was deductable. as a part of the oper ation expense. Many community houses have been erected in mill vil lages and sections and no such de ductions claimed, it is stated. All children of the county are re quested to read the story about Santa Claus coming to The Brevard News office on Thursday of next week, Dec. 3. They're also invited to meet him.
