BREVARD HI NEWS HISTORY IV TERM PAPER > Now is the time for all great men and women to come te tbe aid of the country ? such is the philosophy of Miss Bromfield. Governed by thi? theory, she has inflicted upon us the task of composirg a term paper. As is must be done just so, with fo?t notes, references, etc., this is quite a task. In any eveiit, we have the satis faction of knowing that we must do or d\e, for we cannot graduate with out-completing this worthy manu script. All students are advised to attend apel next Thursday for a very special reason. It is rumored that the Sophomore clM4.:will honor us with MPciramatic T?i esentation entitled ^Beacon Flipper's Pullets." As wa Pave not yet had the pleasure this year of being ente rtained by this class we are eagerly anticipating this im portant event. SCOUT MEETING 1 N As Mrs. McLeod, our Scout captain, will be present at the next Scout meeting, every girl is earnestly requested to be there. A ceremony will be conducted in which the tender foot badges will be awarded. "Brothers (and sisters too), you don't know the half of it!" | Everyone is so interested in English this year that they even study all , lunch period and an hour after school ' ? not mentioning the after supper : social hour of pursuing Shakespeare, r^~ =* Eat with "Doc" on Cold Days, Hot Days. Whether it be springtima, or the coldest of cold days, we will serve you with the very best food that we can procure, ? cooked in a manner that will make you want to come back. Good Meals Cooked Right ? AT ? The Canteen Doc Galloway, Prop. ^ SELICA NEWS ITEMS Many of our farmers are doing ' their plowing during: the days of sunshine we have had lately. It mat ters not how cheap corn and potatoes may be the old woman' and kid3, also Bill and Beck must have their share. Our folks received a real scare Monday when a dog supposed to be mad passed through the settlement but was killed by Glenn Currie. Uncle Lem Brooks is still very sick at his home here. Arthur Orr is on the sick list at this writing. Coy Hogsed was a visitor with us recently. Uncle Butler Brown was a visitor in our section recently. We are glad to announce that the Dickons are Selica residents instead of Calvert as was stated in the paper last week and we are proud of them for many reasons. J. Wade Dickson, the father, is one o.f the ablest Sun day school and church men in our community and those ? missing his Chaucer, or what have you through battles, love, affairs, and . other es capades. Still," Miss" ' Copp isn't satisfied, so we proceed to , take Shakespeare to bed. After spending half the night in study or meditation and the rest in reminiscing, we limp to school with Chaucer and his col leagues under our arms. ? Elizabeth Case THURSDAY CHAPEL PROGRAM X ? Thursday, February 25, Sandy j McLeod read his essay on the life of | George Washington, which was print ed in the newspaper This article, ' while very instructive, was written in , such an intriguing style that is proved vastly interesting to all its hearers. , "Study" Study, study, what can be the use? The more you study, the more you learn ; I The more you learn, the more you forget; i The more you forget, the less you know ; ( So why study? j Zit'taflW rUVLli It is a very funny thing to me that a teacher never gets "spring fever." When we pupils are reminiscing over the swimming hole or idly jerking a nice fat trout out of a cool brooklet, we and our air castles are abruptly torn asunder by an accusing gaze cast in our direction by an irate teacher. For a few moments our minds dexteriously grapple with the profound material set before us by our superiors. Then, with a serene, lethargic gaze we sink into peaceful oblivion ? lost in a world of our own making. ? Elizabeth Case LIMESTONE COLLEGE Dr. Marguerite Tyler, professor of Chemistry and Physics, at Limestone College, addressad the Senior girls ?>f Brevard- High school Tuesday afternoon in the French room. Dr. Tyler discussed the suitability of Limestone College as a desirable choice for the girl who intends to go to college. Due to a capable faculty, adequate equipment, and an excellent student body, Dr. Tyler deems Lime stone a truly desirable college. She incessantly urged that we realize the fact that only one girl in the United States out of every hundred has the opportunity; hence, the necessity of choosing a college that wiil give most lasting benefits to the student. What more comforting words than these? "It Was Fuliy Covered By Insurance" Every man dreads fire. No man knows when a fire is going to break out in his home or business house.
