ROSMAN SCHOOL NEWS Seventh Grade Has Exmllent i Attendance Record. The seventh grade has been trying j to improve the attendance of the; plementray school this year. Taking into consideration bad roads, a scar let fever epidemic, hard times, and the fact that some of us have to come over nine miles to school; we feel that we have done pretty well. Our average attendance for the first six months of school has been about 96 per cent. The average attendance of the boys and girls has been almost the same. MARY MORGAN, 7th grade. A Business Enterprise The Sixth Grade is selling seeds for .Mr. Bush. We have flower seeds ox ] garden seeds, either at five cents package. On each package that we sell, we get one cent, and for each box, twentv cents as a commission. RUBY LOVE, 6th grade. 'A Trip to Mt. Mitchell \ A year or so ago, at the top of Mt. Mitchell, a tower was dedicated to i the State of North Carolina. It was given to the State by a wealty old I gentleman, for a fire lookout, so that j fires might be more quickly located : and extinguished. My father who wa? a warden, made the trip and carried i all the family with him. There are two cabins at the top of . the mountain. In one of these there is a huge fireplace which buvns logs five feet or more long, and it was I very pleasant close about it as the ' day was cold and rainy. The Deep Laurel was in full bloom and the 1 mountain sides were masses of the j most beautiful flowers that I havi ; ever 3een. HILDA GALLOWAY, 6th grade. Spring Time ?? Spring time is here, i And with it comes beauty, happiness, j and cheer, Spring is my favorite time of the ; year. I love spring and I ?.m glad it is I here. I love the flowers, birds and bees, ; and also the beautiful trees. I like them most when they put forth their leaves. I love spring flowers, Because they bring forth flowers. I love the green pastures for on the hills, I love the gardens and the yellow j daffodils. J RUBY GLAZENER, 5th grade. ; Spring Flowers Spring has arrived early this year, the summer birds have come back ? They wake us every morning with i their sweet songs. The west wind blows so* soft and warm that jt has 1 waked up the spring flowers ami told | them to come up in the sunshine, i A few days ago I took a short walk through the meadows and woods. I '? saw the alders and pussy willows, ; also the dainty little for-get-me-nots, j down by the brook. They were looking i at their reflections in the water and seemed well pleased with what they saw. In the meadow the dandelions1 and buttercups were peeping up with little golden eyes to see if the violets ? had gotten up yet. Near the woods I four.d some lovely ? purple violets, and deeper under the j trees some yellow woods violets. ' Ail Alligator j Last summer a boy from Florida i sent me an alligator. When I opened ; the box I didn't know what it was. j: I made a cage and put it into it and | I made a pond for it to swim in. j When I would go to find it it would I try to bite me. We had been sitting there : waiting for the elephants to come, | whan suddenly they appeared comintr through the entrance beside up. My ; aunt jumped up and climbed to a top . seat. The elephants did many clever j tricks, which I enjoyed very much. A fishing Trip One time my father and I went on a fishing trip. We went to the Whitewater Falls. We fished all day. That night we cleaned the- fish we caught. We cooked them and ate them for oor aupper. We made us * bed and slept until morning. Then we went home. We did- not catch many fish. JOE BURT, 3rd grade. My Trip Tuesday afternoon I went with my father to Asheville. I want to tell some of the things I saw. I saw a great many fine cattle. I saw Indiana, too, There were many pretty flowers everywhere.
