CANDIDATES FOR THE STATE SENATE SPEAKING DATES FOH THE DEM OCRATIC NOMINEES. Editor The Citizen: We feel that we should be allowed to present our side of the controversy with the Clerks' un ion which has resulted In a boycott be in declared against our store. In the first place both members of our firm have always been friendly to tne un ion, and have always been more than willing to accede to any reasonable de mands that it might make. Both of us, while clerks, took an active part In the organisation of the union. We contend that we are not now vlo; latlng our agreement with the union Wr slmed an agreement to close at ' O'clock on week days and 10:30 p. m. on flatMrdav. We have always adhered to thi. agreement to the letter. No store In town has been more prompt to close on the minute than we have. We never Signed any agreement to close at 10 o'clock on Saturdays, and we think that the attempt to establish this as th oinin hour Is unjust and unrea- sonable, both to the merchants and to thn nubile. Ttf a a ril hod as it Is to close at m-irn and ernerlenee has demonstrated that the time before 10 Is entirely too short to attend to all customers, many ...k oonnnt leave their work early on Saturday. Besides, the increased number makes It Impossible ror eaci. a k. waitPd umn as promptly as usu al. We do most respectfully Insist that this Is an arbitrary hour, ana tne tmt,t .hnuld not be made to carr It out, at a Ions to merchants and an Inconvenience to tne puDiic. . THTi!
