The second largest and probably the most select and cultured medical so ciety of the United States will convene at Ashevllle the first week of October next, by invitation of the Buncombe County Medical society. Last fall Drs. Balid, Flrtcher, Minor, Glenn, Morris, Mrr! ether and Reynolds, under the chilli manvhlp of Dr. Paquin, an old iiKiv.lier of the Mississippi Valley Med ical association, went In a body to the Chicago meeting of this association and by hard wuik secure the next convention against all competitors. Dr. Fletcher was made thalsman of the arrangement committee and Dr. Paquin secretary. The following were appointed members of the local com mittee now wo: king fur the success of the meeting: Finance, Drs. VISITORS CONTINUE TO GO TO MONTREAT MR. VAN HORN'S REPORT OF THE WORK'S PR0GRE8S. Secretary O. B. Van Horn of the Y. M. C. A. returned yesterday from Montreat, where he went to rest for a week. While there he was asked to speak, which he did Wednesday even ing, taking for his subject "Hindrances to Personal Work." Montreat, Mr. Van Horn says, is Ail ing lapldly with visitors. Nearly all the cottages are taken. Three meetings a day are now being held. Every morn ing Dr. Quarles of Washington and Lee university has been speaking, giv ing a series of talks on "Evidences of Christianity." Dr. Uuerrant of Ken tucky has been telling of his work among the mountaineers. Rev. Thornwell Jacobs of Morganton will speak this evening, and will prob ably continue to speak dally until the arrival of Dr. A. C Dixon, which will be next Tuesday.
