A most appreciative audience at tended the song f.-citn 1 of Franceska Kaspar Lawson, of Washington, last '"riday, November 1.3, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Neville Sloan. The recital , was given under th auspices of the 1('15 McDowell Club and was a rare treat to music lovers, of our city. Miss Margaret Rogers, the presi dent of 'the Music Club, introducing the artist in a most charming man ner, took advantage of the opportu nity to impress upon those, present the fiecessity of a hall or an audi torium, suitable for recitals and con certs. , In fact, she stated most em phatically that there was no question 'of doubt about the matter Franklin must have an auditorium. Miss Lawson, with her beautiful voice and magnetic personality, easi ly won the hearts of the audience. The program comprised Classic1 Airs., Songs of Other Lands, English and American songs, and an Aria from the "The Barber of Seville." Those who enjoyed the privilege of listening to this program are most enthusiastic and will gladly welcome an opportunity of again hearing thir great artist. Building in Highlnds. Mr. W. M. Cleaveland, building contractor of Highlands, now has forty men at work and has sufficient building contracts to keep these men busv until spring. The Gen eral Mica & Clay Company spends over $30,000 per year, in Mafon coun ty and the friends, of both parties hope that the matter in, dispute may be adjusted. Highlands has New Store. Mr. G. W. Marett and Dr. E. R. Gilbert have bought out the hardware store of Mr. H; M. Bascom at High lands and wil) operate under the firm name of the Highlands Hardware Company . One car could not hold all the turkeys , and poultry brought to town, consoquehtly many farmers had to take their fowls back home to be held for another sale on December 9th or near that date) Since the farmers did not notify Mr. Arrendale of the number of tur keys they would have for sale, the county agent provided only one car therefore Mr. Arrendale cannot be blamed for the inconveniences caused to some. ' The car left Thursday morning car rying 7792 pounds of turkeys, 4151 pounds of hens, 2486' pounds of fryers and some roosters, ducks arid guineas Total yeight was 14,881 pounds and amount received at Franklin $3155.84 A late telegram from the buyer asked that the car be crowded. Hence more turkeysj and poultry were loaded at Otto and Dillard Thursday morning. Road Work in Rabun , The state highway board in session at East Point Thursday, awarded a number of, important road and bridge contracts. Three grading contracts in1 Rabun county were awarded, covering apn. proximately 15 miles, involving about $175,000 and completing the state aid mileage' allotment in that county. Contracts are for grading of stretches on the Tallulah, Falls-North Carolina line oad and were let to M. R. Wood all of Atlanta and Davis &Scroggins of Commerce.
