ASIIEAR Gold Mine Locals i The, weather has been very cold for this season of the year, the thermom eter standing at zero Sunday morn ing, March 14, and we have had a laige snow on the 11th. The snow was ten inches deep in this section. The people had been gardening some before the young 'winter set in, . There is seme folks sick in this community. We hope for them a speedy recovery. Miss Ruby McCoy has returned to her home from Franklin high school We hope she will soon be able to re turn to her school. We are hardly expecting our pastor Rev. Floyd Dendy, to fill his appoint ment this time, on account of the weather, although he is prompt to come at his regular time. Rev. Den dy is a highly honored man ' in this community because he takes the Bible as his foundation for; what he is do-' ing. Our retired pastor took for his leading sermons, bobbed hair and short skirts and that didn't stick. Where we are losing out on our good Sunday school is by not having our old men in this community, such as Rev. I. C. Peek, J. C. Henderson, M. B. Keener and others to make us our old time Sunday school talks. We miss our old senior teacher since he has quit. He is the only man in this community that holds any kind of a certificate. The people in this community want to be very earful about cherry pie; a rush over a pie made one man leave and say, "I am scared of getting bush whacked if I go back." Scroll Items -Messrs. F. E. Mashburn and Zack Peek were visiting relatives on Elli jay Sunday. For weeks Mrs. Zack Peck has been bedfast with rheumatism. We hope she will improve in health as the spring advances. Aunt Ann Jones is also suffering from rheumatism. Messrs. Carl and Buleon Peek have gone J.Q Transylvania county to work Mr. Amos Mashburn went-to Syi va to work. Mrs. C. R. Mashburn has gone to her son, H. H. Mashburn, at Franklin. Mrs. Latha Moses and two sons of Ellijay, were welcome visitors in our community recently. The other day Mr. Irvin Keener of Gold Mine, purchased a thorough bred sheep of F. E. Mashburn;. A short time ago, Mr. Jim Keener and little grand daughter were sleep ing in a house where Mr. J. D. Mc Coy had stored several bushels -of corn and potatoes. They thought corn was being taken. Somehow, be tween 8 and 9 p. m. the house caught fire, (No one knows how, so far as the writer can learnl hnrninir nn j , --Q t? corn, potatoes, part of the bedding jur. Keener s gun and the lantern.
