Personal Mention Mr. George Mallonec who has been engaged on road .work qn the Bal sam mountains since last December was.called home last week on account of the illness of a member of his family. At last reports the afflicted one was getting better. . Mr. Tom Shepherd has sold his business at Cherokee and has re turned to Franklin to live. Mr. Neville Sloan made a trip-to Andrews last week to' procure data on an 8,000 acre tract on Buck creek in the western end of the county. Mr: Sloan, who recently resigned from the forest service as surveyor to engage in the private practice of his profession', received the contract to make a complete survey of the tract on Buck creek. He and his as sistant, Mr. Roane Bradley, left Wed nesday to begin this work. Mr. Bradley will remain to complete the survey, while Mr. Sloan will return to Franklin in a few days to look after, the numerous other contracts engaging his attention. Chief Yeoman, Goo. L. Jones, left on' Wednesday ' for Omaha, Neb,, where lie will be engaged in recruit ing service for the U. S. Navy. Mrs. Jones and ,little daughter will follow later. 1 Miss Clyde Aitendale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W Arrcndale, and who will graduate at Young Harris this year, made a general average of Over 90 for the present year in all studies and has consequently been designated as one of the speakers at the commencement exercises, Mr. Charlie Baline has returned from Jacksonville, where he had been for the past several .months. Mr. Blaine will probably erect a building in Franklin and operate a lunch stand. Hames attend ed the funeral and burial of Mr. Hames' mother at Clarksville, Ga., last week. More electric ranges for the light and power department of the city government have recently arrived. They are on 'display- at the clerk's office. The Joines Motor & Tractor Co. received this week another car load of Fords and about 80 bushels of parts. Mrs. Sheppard had just returned from middle and south- Georgia and reached Franklin in time for .the big snow Storm. Her illness was probably due to the qtiick change of climate. Mr. Dave Gordon left Sunday' for his place of business at Buford, Ga. Mr. Gordon contemplates returning in a few weeks with Mrs. Gordon to spend the summer here. . , The town board has increased' th salary of the town clerk, Mr. Frank Bryson, to $100 per month. Good home, demonstration agents seem to be scarce. Macon county so far has been unable to procure the services of a suitable demonstration agent. Last Sunday, morning thermometers in Franklin registered all the way from 12 above to two below zero, Eight above was probably about right.- v . Mr. Chas. Smathers of Gainesville was a week-end visitor to Franklin. Mr. Smathers has many friends here who are anxious to sec him locate in Franklin. Quite a bit of snow fell in Franklin last Monday. Mr. II. O.
