However, this is no reason for hold ing lands at an exhorbitant ' price. Those who do so will be paying tax es ott their lands for the next ten years and then some. When one thinks of the thousands of acres of land in Macon bounty it is the height of folly for any one man to believe that he has the "only desirable tract. People with money are not in the habit of being robbed, otherwise they would be poor like the rest of us. If you really want to sell ask a reason able price and let the deal go through. It might be a good idea for some of our citizens to get acquainted with the man who put the "frank" in Franklin. A little more frankness on the part of all of us would do no harm. Work on the streets of the Fair Ground Park development continues with unabated vigor. The owners of this development have an excellent property and are. to be congratulated on their efforts in the development line. The town board would win t1 thanks of everybody by placing a few loads of sand and gravel between the concrete and the bridge in East Franklin. Sometimes the water tanks are al most empty and again they are run- town board make it the duty; of some "ning over. It is suggested that the particular employee to see that the tanks are filled at all times. If a fire should occur when the tanks are practically empty we would dearly pay for our carelessness. Constructive criticism is valuable, -but at tacks which are made for" the sole purpose of giving vent to a chronic dis satisfaction with the woild in general has its disgruntled knockers, but Providence in its divine wisdom has' kept them in the minority. - How much better it would be both could persuade such persons to cast join the people who are working hard munity. Pessimism and unfair criticism are difficult loads to carry, especial ly when one is trying to make the grade. It costs nothing t drop them and it is worth anything to be rid of them. BOOST FRANKLIN! GOLD BURIED IN CIVIL WAR DAYS UNEARTHED Better rummage through thi old trunks in the garret and see if you tan find an old map. One such map was worth $200,000. Read the follow ing clipped from the Charlotte Ob server : Demopolis, Ala., May 31. Buried gold of Civil war days, valued, accord ing to current estimates, as high as $200,000. has been unearthed near Demopolis by Gayus Whitefield, of Middlesboro, Ky., with the aid of an ancient map found among papers of his father, C. Boaz Whitfield,- Ala bama pioneer. Discovery of the gold was confirm ed here today, but the amuont has not been made public. There are nine heirs whs may lay claim to the treasure. Boaz Whitfield was one of the rich est of Alabama s pre-war citizens. The last census gave Franklin a population of 773. In regard to the construction of the hotel on Tremont and the one on the public square, there are possibly 765 skeptics in Franklin. These skeptics will no doubt be converted within the next few weeks. . NOTICE OF SERVICE OF SUMMONS BY PUBLICATION North Carolina Macon County. In the Superior Court. C. S.
