Mr, Callahan's father, mother and sister of Miami, arrived the first of the week to visit their son and brother. . , Mr. and Mrs. Gus Leach, their two children; and their niece, Miss Rose Rogers, left on June 3rd for Hopkins ville, -Ky., to visit relatives of -Mrs. Leach. .They expect to be gone two weeks and will probably visit rela tives in Missouri while away. Mr. Hi G. Robertson' returned first of the week from Chapel Hill, where he had been to attend a reunion of the class of 1896, of the University of North Carolina'. Col. Robertson is a member of this class and greatly en joyed meeting all his old class mates Work is progressing nicely on the scout cabin located in rear of the Ma sonic lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Fred . Johnston and three children of Tampa, spent a few days this week visiting Mr. John ston's mother, Mrs. F..S. Johnston. Mr. Johnston's host of friends in Franklin wish that he and his family might visif his old home town more often and stay longer. Mr. j. w. rorester, supervising bookkeeping systems , for farmers in the state, was here last Saturday in specting the work of Mr. Lippard who is in charge of that work in Ma con county. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cunningham moved Monday to his home on Har rison Avenue, until lately occupied by Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Rice. Students , I want to say to those students of the high school who may want to do some school work during the sum mer: First. To those who will want to make up. the work in some subject taken on class and for some reason failed to make a pass, get. help from as good teacher or helper as you can, and take a re-examination on this subject at the. beginning of the' fall term of school by the regular teacher in the high school. It does not mat ter who gives this coaching, as this unit for the subject must be granted ny tne scnooi. n a licensed high school ( teacher can be secured, of course', so much the better; but this .teacher cannot grant ' units for the Franklin high school. If a subject has not been taken on class, a standard unit of work need not, be attempted outside a summer school. The requirements of a standard high school unit are such that a private teacher cannot honest ly do the work for less than it would cost to go to' a summer school. A. L. B RAM LETT. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Cooper, who have been residing at Etowah. Tenn. have moved to Franklin and will live with Mrs. Cooper's father, Mr. G. T Stiles, on West Main street. It is un derstood that Mr. Cooper has bought a half interest in the Coca Cola Bot tling Works from Mr. Stiles and that he will make Franklin his permanent home, the citizens of the town ex tend a cordial welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Cooper. Mr. John Willis Fox, who has been attending the University of Florida. has returned to Franklin to be with his grandparents, Judge and Mrs. John B. Willis, at the Franklin Ter race for the summer. John has made quite a reputation as a writer at the Florida institution and his friends m Franklin have been extending him congratulations. . Mr. T. B. Ashe is building a house for Mr. Ed, Carpenter on the Bryson City road near the home of -Mrs. E, J. Hurst just in the city limits. 't Mrs. Anne Eagle, of Birmingham, is a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs, J. A. Corpening on the Cartoog echaye. Mrs. & L. Oliver of Colum bia, S. C.also spent the week-end at this delightful home. Miss Peggy Corpening, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. J. A. Corpening, was operated on at a local hospital last Tuesday for appendicitis. At last re ports she was rapidly recovering. Mrs. Mark Dowdle, her two chil dren and her father, Mr; N. L. Bar nard, left Thursday for an extended visit to Mrs. Dowdies brothers and sisters in Washington and Oregon. En route they will stop off at Yellow stone Park. Dr. T. C. Cannon, a prominent citi zen of Joncsboro, Ga., is spending a vacation in our delightful mountains at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McClure. The Doctor expressed his pleasure at this opportunity to enjov the climate of Macon county, which is favorably known throughout the southland. We paid Franklin a short visit last Sunday, and must say that those peo ple in that town are wide awake anc doing things, things that count. ' ALLEY KILLED Miss Ora Sue Hunnicutt left Sun day to visit her ' grandmother, Mrs. Sweet, at Athens, Ga. Scvcral of those who have been at tending various, schools, colleges and universities have arrived at their home in Franklin for the summer. The others are expected soon. The Press has been unable to obtain ihp names of all the arrivals. On the. night of election day Mr. Zebulon Alley, brother of Hon. Felix .Alley, candidate, for congress, while carrying the return from Cashiers township to Sylva, was : accidentally killed when the machine, he was rid ing in was wrecked, four miles' from Sylva. It is reported here that Mr. Henry Moss was driving the car at the time of the accident. . The car in which Mr. Alley and Mr. Moss was riding was . struck by a large truck.
