THURSDAY K5AY 19, TJ THE FRANKLIN PRESS 7 PACE NINE PICKING POTATO BUGS A HOPELESS TASK Two .pounds of arsenate of lead the plants are soon ruined, leaving the stems which become dry and black. No grower should permit the bugs to damage his crop. Control measures are simple and effective The best remedy is to use two pounds of arsenate of lead with the bor deaux mixture made with four pounds of bluestone, four pounds of "stone lime and 50 gallons of water." Mr. Brannon states that the arse nate of lead will poison the hr-a while the bordeaux will 1 repel flea beetles and leaf hoppers. Hoppers have been unusually abund ant this season. Paris green will not give as good results as the arsenate of lead as a poison for the beetles. Several applications of poison will have to be made and the fields should be watched closely to sec that the beetles are kept under control. urn mm ' : & time payments; on these cars il ' 1 added to the regular Bordeaux spray mixture will control potato bugs ef SINGING AND PREACHING All day singing and sermon by Rev. "The Colorado Potato Beetle is a serious pest of potatoes," says C. H. Brannon, extension entomoligist at State College. "The plants are first attacked by the over-wintered beetles and later by the first generation of slugs. If the pest is not poisoned, i Mr. and Mrs., T. C. Ledbctter, of' Cullowhee visited the son, J.
