THE FRAKKL1N ;, v THURSDAY JULY 23, 1027 PACE TEN COW SCHOOLS mm 12 way Enrollment of 3,000 Frank lin and Highlands Schools to Open in September List of Teachers. Fifty-four of the 56 schools in Macon county opened Monday morn ing, for an enrollment that is ex pected, when the figures are tabu later, to run close to the 3,000 mark. Teachers in these schools assembled here Saturday for a teachers' meet ing, to receive supplies, and for in structions. The 56 schools are being taught by 88 teachers, or an average of one teacher to aboutr32 pupils, on a basis of estimated enrollment. The -two other Schools-r-those at Highlands and" Franklin will open the first Monday, in September, it was announced by County Superinten dent M. D. Billings, just six, weeks later than the country schools. When these schools open, a total of between 3,500 and 4,000 school chil dren will be enrolled in this county, it is estimated. Last year's en rollment of white children was 3,625. The list of teachers, in ., the 54 country schools was made public last week by Mr. Billings. The 16 teachers for the Franklin school and the seven for the Highlands school will -'be announced later, he said. They have returned to their old jobs. Mr. Leonard is night watchman in Tennessee and Mr. W. A. Keener's address is Hartford, Tcnn. Messrs Roy, Harlie and Randolph Keener are working near Boston, Mass. Many people of our community are attending the tent meeting at Salem. The meeting is being conducted by the Messrs Myers. Mrs. Reubin's friends will be glad to learn that she is improving.
