STANDARD WILL OPMATION Saturday of This Week Date of Opening One of Fin est Stations in State Franklin Only Town West of Asheville to Have Two Standard Stations. The Standard Oil company of New Jersey Saturday will open its new filling station on the Public Square. The new station is said to be one of the finest little plants in the state. The new station, with its attractive exterior, presents quite a contrast to the antiquated structures that stood .on the northeast border of the square a few weeks ago. The new' station has been completed in a period of about five weeks. The station itself is, in the main white, with a red Spanish tile roof. The grounds around . are paved, the paving stretching out into the street oh each side. .,"' Underground are the gas tank, with a capacity of 3,000 gallons, and air, sewer, water, oil, and other lines. The station is attractive in every particular, neat, clean, and extremely convenient in arrangement. The drain age arrnagement is in conformity with the very latest design. The plant represents . an investment, including the lot, of approximately $20,000, . Immediately work will start on a similar station near the railroad sta tion, where the bulk station is to be built. Franklin will be the only town west of Asheville v with two Standard stations. They are under stood to have been brought here largely through the influence of J. S. Conley, of the Joines Motor and Tractor Company, Inc., local Standard agents. Mr. Conley will be in charge of the two retail and the bulk stations here. P. T. A. MEETING P. T. A. held on October 7, the regular meeting with the president, Mrs. W. W. Sloan, at Sunny-side farm. A short business session was held. It " was discussed and ' decided that the P. TV. A. should provide a Christ mas box for the inmates of the Coun ty Home. The meeting was then turned into a social affair.. The making and dressing potato dolls was the main feature of the after noon. Many ladies showed talent in this line. There were over forty present. A salad course was served by the hostesses, Mrs. W, W. Sloan, Mrs. Geo. Slaglc, Mrs. Neville Sloan and Mrs. , Kate Smith, after which we adjourned. The P. T.
