On Tuesday, March 13, the Macon County League of Women Voters celebrated their fifth birthday at the home of Miss Bernice Durgin. There were twenty members present. Mrs. J. E. Root won the prize for answer ing twenty-five questions out of 'twenty-six, the answers of which were found on the old time' Indian head copper cent. A prize was also given to the one who could get the great est number of articles with one dol lar. Mrs. J. A. Hines won it with a list of forty-one articles. Delicious refreshments, consisting of a salad Course and tea and cake brought to a close one more enjoyable birthday party for our League. May she have many more. " - '' . The Community Club sewing circle met with Mrs. J. A.. Hines on Thurs day afternoon. -Although the day was rainy there' were twenty ladies, pres ent. Mrs. Marett toook as her Bible study topic the ten- commandments. Miss Betsy Potts entertained a num ber of her young friends ' at a St. Patrick's Day party on Saturday evening.TheSt. Patrick's Day color scheme .was ; carried - out in the re freshments -and -the 'children -spent - a most enjoyable evening playing games. The pupils ' of the Highlands school are all busy getting ready for com mencement and working (on their ex aminations. Mr. J. Quincey Piersori is improv ing daily and is now able to dismiss his special nurse. The birds and frogs were forced to run to cover again on Saturday owing to a very unexpected visit from old King Winter. We had . all begun to think spring had really come to stay. The many friends of Aunt Jane Justice will be glad . to learn of her improvement. Miss Hazel Ramsey is confined at Mr. Edd Duvall's home at the Iotla bridge, with a bad case of pneumonia. We are all glad to read the inter esting letters which, are in The Press, and we hope they will continue. Mr. J. V. Smith has traded for another team of mules and gone back to hauling lumber. Misses Tola and Jessie Ramsey spent the' week end with home folks. Mrs. T. Harden spent Friday and Saturday in Commerce, Ga. Messrs. T. R. Tweed and Wr. H. Forshaw, both of Asheville, are mak ing the Scott Griffin headquarters this week while visiting the trade in this county.
