Mrs. Ray Downs for 84 long years, passed to the celestial city beyond this realm o broken ties. Because of her spotless pure life we cannot think of her as being dead, but as a pilgrim who has joined a new company only to mingle her voice with the redeemed in that glad new song of Moses and the Lamb. She was born in Yancey county September 6, 1844 ; moved lo Macon county where a lassie of 6 years of age; professed faith in Christ when 12 in a meeting conducted by Kev. Jeff Kollinsi (Hon. Thos. Rollins grandfather) one of the old pioneer preachers who blazed the way of the Kingdom in Western North Carolina, She joined the old Burningtown church where she lived a worthy Christian life till -the time of her death ; priviled . P. Ray, Rufus Ray and E. M. Ray, Mrs. Lack Barnard, Mrs. Henry Bryant and Mrs. John tiaiawin, au still livine in Macon county.1 Her husband died 1876. and later she mar ried Mr. Z. A. Downs. To this union was born one girl, Mrs. Callie Parrish, -still - livings ' , She was well ready when the sand in the hour-glass ceased to grind and in her Mast hours selected the songs to be sting at her burial, as follows: "Amazing Grace" and "I would Not Always Live." Was buried at Iotla Baptist church April 7. Funeral ser vices conducted by the writer. "Servant of, God well done! Games were played and Floyd Ramsey had his kodak there and .took pictures. , Charlie Smith celebrated Easter by wearing palm beach pants.
