EARL ANGEL ! - 1 -&. nnrrkTTrii. ma i iiiiir i Building and Loan Facts and Figures SPEND LESS-SAVE MORE Do you think you can discover any better rule for wealth? At any rate millions of people have tested this particular rule and it has always worked. . - Without a schedule, you spend every cent. .. .money simply disappears.... you had some yesterday, less today, and tomorrow nothing. Start now to save by schedule. Lay something by each week. Plan for it. It takes a PLAN and the RE SOLVE and WILL to save, that's aii. : .We are. not ..alarmists but we 'do note a radical change in- business prac tices. There is a tendency toward the sale of about everything from automobiles and tires to smelling salts and clothing on "twelve con-j venient monthly payments." Things that people never thought of buying on time, are now exploited under the high-sounding sophisstry of paying for a thing "out of income in stead of principal." While some of this selling is bene ficial, being a stimulator both to production and consumption, all is not wholesome. The margin that people are paying, either in merchandise ftcy are not ready to buy or in what goes ' to cover the cost of long-time credit this is largely wealth that is being diverted from savings institutions. People are doing worse than spend ing all they make, they are mort gaging their future earnings for things that do not justify this action. We have no intention of knocking legitimate business even when t differ with it, but we do believe in putting, ercaterernphasis -and - gaining picture. We are' going through a period that calls for greater activity on the part of all financial institutions. We must work to keep tke public sane and sensible. We must make the public see that nothing can take the place of a con tinually growing thrift or deposit ac count. An investment opportunity (?) that is expected to pay 20 per cent to 50 per cent, rarely lives up to its ad vance aotiecs. Propositions have paid as much as that, but only one in perhaps a thousand. The other 999 have asually been a total loss. How are you going to know 'The one in a thousand," in advance? If you place your savings in this association, dividends are assured by. our notable past record. SURE dividends mean immeasur ably more than uncertain claims, rosy promises and glittering hopes. A word to our friends and a word, through you, to your friends. When we possess something good, we feel like sharing it with some bodywe want others to get the same benefit that we ourselves enjoy. That spirit is the divine instinct in human nature. In a booklet issued by one of the foremost universities, we find a receipt for happiness, stated in this manner: "Only that man is immune from circumstance who is controlled by de sire for the good of all life for all time. Maybe the above is , a bit high flown in its expression, but here is what we are leading up to, stated in plain terms: If you already have a Thrift Account with our institution and you appreciate its high value, in vite your friends to join with us. also 1 ell them that all funds arc backed by the finest security in the world first mortgages on improved real estate Tell them that the earnings from an investment with us are the largest available with safety. Tell them that we arc helping the welfare and prosperity of this com munity by making it possible for people in average circumstances, to own their own homes. Those benefits merit your endorse ment. So bring a friend. We will ap preciate your co-operation and von will be happy in the sharing of your good fortune with someone else . ' Our proposition is worth looking into, xou can put it off. if vou want to, but the sooner you drop 'round and investigate the wisdom of in vesting your savings with The Macon County Building & Loan Association the sooner you will be on your way toward that pinnacle called SUCCESS. Adv. Democrats and Cold Water Houston, Tex., May 21. Cold water may prove a deciding factor in the selection of a Democratic nominee for the presidency in case the delegates drift into a convention deadlock and are compelled to sit through long drawn out balloting in the heat ot Texas midsummer. There being no such thing as a frost ine in this latitude, water mains in Houston are laid close to the top of the ground. As a result drinking water taken direct from the tap has a temperature of 85 degrees con siderably too warm for the average politician. For this reason, the city of Houston has turned over the con vention drinking water problem to en gineers.' Automatic electric coolers, equipped with oversized Frigidaire motors 'will be scattered about the convention floor and set up outside the hall, tor the relief of hot and thirsty delegates, many of whom , will be experiencing the heat and humidity of southern Texas for the first time. ' Refrigeration engineers, who have been assigned - to the task of chilling the convention water supply will in stall mechanical equipment that has been tested in the blistering heat of steel mills, where a cake of ice dis appears like a slice of butter on hot toast. Water coolers that have per formed successfully in the full glare of open hearth furnaces will function for the Democratic delegates unm some one gets the necessary two thirds vote. Tt is estimated that the. automatic water coolers will provide the cooling equivalent , ot nine tons oi meiung ice daily, making it easier for organi zation leaders to hold their delegates in line in the event the convention fails to arrive at an early choice. This will give each delegate the equivalent of 15 pounds ot ice oauy for his drinking water as long a the convention is in progress Stiles Locals drs. Austin L.
