THURSDAY, SEPTEMCEH 27, 1221 THE FRANKLIN VLZZS, FRANKLIN. II C. TO " MAKE THE BEST BETTER9' 4-H WHEN A MAN, FROM HIS HEART, SAYS, "I WILL," HE IS A SUCCESS ALREADY I A Message to 4 TT If AV iiempeE's This week the editor of The Press is using the half pag bf the 4-H club as a means of send ing the members of the club a message of importance. The boys and girls of Macon county who have joined the 4-H club and who are only now beginning to make profits, both mental and monetary, by reason of their membership, are now in danger of losing thir leader. A movement is on foot to discharge the county agent. Some of the candidates now running for the of f ice of commissioner have expressed their determina tion to discharge the agent in the event that they are elected. Consequently it is necessary for the 4-H club members to find out how each candidate stands on the question of a county agent. ... The cost of the county agents of f ice, including his salary, amounts to only two and a half cents on the hundred dollars of taxable property. For instance, if a man pays taxes on one thousand dollars worth of property, only 25 cents of his taxes go toward the support of the ex tension service in Macon county. Every club member in the county who has chickens, hogs or other farm produce to sell knows that the agent will save in increased prices on produce of all kinds many times the cost of his1 office and salary. Discharge "the county apnt and the 4-H club immediately disbands. The mothers and the club lii&berswill be attheliny H the peddlers who will go abotu over the county paying half the market price for such produce as the good women of Macon have to sell. i' If any or all the clubs in Macon county wish to address letters to the candidates for county commissioner to ascertain how these candidates stand on the employment of a county agent, just send your letters to The Press and the editor will be glad to publish them.
