1 want to say just a little about
our Community club also, and what
it is doing. Of course our biggest
aim is our club house, toward which
we now have about $600 and a deed
to. our lot, which was presented to
the ladies of Highlands by Mr. Pedcn
Anderson. We are, for all civic im
provements and for the uplift and
betterment of our community. We
want to make our town the cleanest,
morally and every other way, in the
country, and wc arc going to start
right now to clean up, each of us in
our own back yard. The ladies arc
working toward a bazzar to be held
next summer to raise more funds and
we hope it will not be so long now
before we can start our club house
and community center.
Work is progressing on Mr. Hager'g
new summer home.

Mr. S. A. Munday has completely
renovated the Pine Tree Inn on Mam

The remains of George L. Vickery
who was killed in Charlotte on Sun
day afternoon, March 24th, were
brought to Highlands on Monday for
burial. Mr. Vickery was killed when
the airplane which he was piloting
crashed to earth and burned. He
was a graduate of Georgia Tech and
of the Army School of Aviation, a
young man of sterling qualities who
will be greatly missed by his friends
in Highlands. His funeral was held
on Tuesday afternoon at the home
of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
George Marett, with whom he had
made his home for a number of
years. The many beautiful flowers
and floral pieces, among which was
a blanket of galax leaves and jonquils
sent by the Highlands Community
club, testified to the high esteem in
which he was held by his (many
friends here, who all sympathize deep
ly with Mr. and Mrs. Marrett in
their loss.
