Mrs. Claude Henry and children, of

The infant child of Mr. and Mrs.
Montgomery McCoy died Tuesday
night and was buried at Dryman's
Chapel Wednesday. Rev. Baty con
ducted funeral services at the home
of Mr. McCoy.
. Mr. Ralph Justice has been suffer
ing with a felon on his finger. He
went to Franklin Thursday and Dr.
Lyle operated on it.
, Rev. Baty , was called away from
services Thursday, to fhe Angel hos
pital, where his daughter was operated
on.
Mr. Jack Henry died Friday night
erf acute indigestion. Mr. Henry was
59 years "old, and had only been sick
a short time. .
Death was unexpected by -his fam
ily and friends. He leaves a wife;
two sons, Noah, of . Dillard, Ga., and
Oliver, of Tesenta ; three daughters,
Mrs. John Dryman, of Tesenta, Mrs.
Elbert Gibson, of Highlands, Mrs.
Addie Miller, of Cashiers ; one sis
ter, Mrs. Mary J. E. Marchetti, of
Charleston, S. C; five brothers, Mil
ler, Paul and Joe, of Highlands, N.
L., of Tesenta, and J. W., of Moun
tain, Rest, SM C. Funeral services
were conducted Saturday at Dry
jnan's Chapel by Rev. John Baty.

We are sorry to learn that Mrs.
Harlie Thomas is sick this week.
We understand that, Mrs. Robert
Howard of Norton is to take over
the Tryphosa post office as post mis
tress, this week. Mr. A. J. Newman
was formerly post master at Try
phosa having served in that capacity
for several years.
Mr. Tom McDowell, who has been
at work at Enka, is in an Asheville
hospital where he underwent an op
eration a few days ago.

Mr. Dave Gunter, of Bushnell, was
in this section Friday and Saturday
looking over some farms. ' Mr. Gun
ter sold his holdings at Bushnell to
the power people and from informa
tion just received he has a farm on
Burningtown Creek spotted.
Carl D. Morgan was commissioned
post master at Stiles a few days ago.
Mr. John T. Welch, of Needmore,
was in this section on business Satur

Mr. T. T. Love after teaching' a
seven and one-half months' . school
at the Morgan school returned to
his home Saturday , at Clarkesvjlle, Ga.
Mr. Austin Byrd, of Habersham,
Ga., was visiting friends and relatives

Miss Mary Carnes, formerly of At
lanta, is with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. T. J. Carnes, seriously ill with
abscess of the brain. Dr. Williams
is the attending physician.
Dr. W." A. Rogers was in this sec
tion Friday. He was called to H.
B. Mason's home.
Prof: T. A. Slagle is teaching a
ten-day singing school at Tellico
church. From all reports Mr. Slagle
is doing a great work to. advance
his students.

Mr. Harvey Carnes is suffering with
rheumatism.
Mr. E. B. Byrd has rented the
Cairo Duvall lands and is making
good progress plowing,
Mr. Henry Cole, of Farney, who
recently purchased the A. W. Morgan
lands on Burningtown Creek, is erect
ing a nice house. Carpenters state
that the house will' soon be ready for
occupants.
Mr. Brye Holbrooks, who works
in the Fontana mines, is with home
folks. .
The people in this section met Sun
day evening at the Morgan school
house and organized an independent
Sunday school. The school will meet
at 2 :30 p. m. Song service will . last
30 minutes followed by the lesson.
Officers will be elected next Suriday.
The school will have by-laws pre
pared by a committee of three.
Everybody far and near will be wel
come. The object of the school is
to teach Bible facts.
Rev. A. J. Smith made a business
trip to Franklin, Monday.

MISS RISER HOSTESS
Miss Amber Kiser was a charming
hostess at a George Washington par
ty at her home on Wayah road Sat
urday night.
The colonial games played during
the evening were characteristic of
social life in Washington's day. Be
fore the guests departed they were
asked, to write a telegram using ten
words beginning with the letters which
spelled Washington. The various tele
gram's were very pathetic, amusing
and original.
Candies were enjoyed throughout the
evening, and toward the close small,
white cakes decorated with sprays ot
red cherries were served with hot
chocolate by the hostess and her
neice, Miss Lewis.
Guests present were: Misses Eliza
beth and Hattie Slagle, 'Carolyn and
Frances Nolen, Elizabeth Setser and
Leona Lewis; Messrs. Paul and John
Robert 'Dalrymple, Chas. Nolen, Rob

Va., arrived here last Friday night

of Union church, held its regular
monthly meeting last Thursday at
the school house with Mrs. Hunter.
Miss Carrie Moore is enjoying a
new experience that of raising chick
ens. She bought 100 "toi practice
on," and the ones that lived thrui
the recent cold snap are doing so
well and growing so fast that Miss
Moore says she wants to buy some
more.
. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Long and little
daughter, Grace, spent the week end
visiting in the Middle Creek sec
tion.. Messrs. ; Will Singleton and John
McConnell have gone to Pennsyl
vania on business.
Our ( county agent, Mr. F. S. Sloan,
held a very interesting and profitable
farmers' meeting at Prentiss last Fri-
j day. A goodly number of farmers
attended the meeting and discussed
various questions of particular in
terest in this section. It was decided
to order a carload of lime for dis
tribution at Prentiss.
Miller Ledford reported that he had
already sowed seed for a tobacco
crop.
Rev. Flanagan filled his appoint
ment at the Presbyterian church Sun
day afternoon, and the membership
took thisi opportunity of lending sin
cere thanks to their pastor for his
splendid co-operation in the work of
remodeling and repairing the church.
The school children at Union are
taking advantage of the spring weath
er by cleaning the school grounds
and preparing to plant flowers.
Clear Creek
Mr. Ed. Potts was down on Clear
Creek last week surveying some land
for Messrs. Loney and Preston Neely;
also some for Mr. E. P. Picklesimer.
Messrs. Lyman, John arid E. P.
Picklesimer have been plowing these
fine days; also Messrs. Harrison, and
George Talley have been plowing.
Mr. Mark Burrell has rented Mr.
Jim Bryson's farm this year. Mr.
Bryson is so feeble he can not work,
it any longer. .
Mrs. R. P. McCall is getting her
farming going well. Mrs. McCall is
a widow, but a good farmer. She is
always on time and never fails to
put enough to her crop to make it.
Mr. Wiley McCall is making a fish
pond arid farming, too.
Aunt Sarah Ann McCoy, who has
been very sick, is some better.
Mr. W. M. Cleaveland, of High
lands, has his saw mill down on
Mr. Mack Wilson's farm sawing up
his timber. Mr. Wilson is going to
build a nice house and barn.
Mr, Preston Neely has moved back
to his farm on Clear Creek.
Mrs. E. P. Picklesimer was visiting
her aunt, Mrs. Sarah Ann McCoy,
at Mr. John Nix's at Satolah, Ga.,
last week. She is very sick. Aunt
Sarah Ann is a native of Macon
county, age 95 the 10th day of last
September.
. Mr. Luther Picklesimer and Mr.
Chas. Brook , took a load of mica a
few days ago to Sylva.
Mrs;1 Lawton James closed her
school at Gear Creek, Feb. 3. She
had a good entertainment, and a
good dinner to finish up on. Several
of our Highlands friends were down.

U. A. M. assisted with the service.

This may be a common1 occurance for
some towns but this was only the
third plane to fly over Highlands.
