The ladies, on arriving, were tak en at once to the salon of the noted French designer Mme. Butterfly, who, with her assistant, Mdme. Cherie, aid ed each lady in choosing the style and materials most suited to her pe culiar style of beauty. Mrs. Tom Slagle chose a simple, girlish sports costume, all white. Mrs. Jess Sloan's evening . gown of metal lic cloth with hoop skirt, elaborate draperies and train, created quite a sensation. Miss Mary Allman chose a charming costume showing the new princess sillhouette, smart touches being introduced in the bustle and the coquettish , scarf she wore. Mrs! Robert Pattern and Miss An nie Slagle wore charming afternoon gowns showing the new high waist line, and long, full skirts, with most demure bonnets. AUTO ON TRIMONT NEARLY PLUNGES INTO MINE SHAFT An accident that mitrht have proved serious occurred one night last week when three autoes, loaded with fire fighters, started to Trimont to stop a forest fire. The front car, driven by Grady Sil er, passed over what seemed to be a bad bump. The .second car, driven by Don Young, attempted to dodge the bump in the road, and passed over "without trouble. The front wheels of the third car, driven by John Cunningham, dropped into a sink in the road that proved to be an opening 'into an abandoned mine shaft, 15 feet deep. The auto was only saved by the front bumper from sinking into the mine. - Rev. Floyd Rogers of the Trinity Episcopal church, of Asheville, visit ed Franklin on Wednesday to aid in arrangements for filling the pulpit of the local Episcopal church. Rev. Rogers dined at the dinner held by the Rotary club Wednesday. Mrs. George Dalrymple had an op eration for a sinus disorder at Angel Brothers' hospital last Friday. She returned home the same day.
