' The friends of Mr.. Robert Barnett are glad to see him out again after being confined to his home with sick ness for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Woods, of Kyle, visited relatives and friends in Aquone. the latter part of last week. Mr. Bradley, of Otto, has recently moved into our community. Mr. Dotson has taken a puip wooa contract with Mr. Holland, of An drews, and has moved his family from Cartoogechaye to the Bill Drake place on Jarrett Creek which is right near his work. Misses Kate Parish, and Annie Lau ra Shields, teachers of the local school, spent the past week-end with home folks at Burningtown and Iotla. Mr. Eugene Roper, of Lexington, was back in Aquone last week. He is employed by the Nantahala Power and Light company for prelim inarv work relative to the removal of two cemeteries that the lake from the proposed dam two miles below Aquone will cover. Mr. Roper was quite busy in this section through the autumn and win ter. The cemeteries have been , surveyed and staked: showing 435 graves in the Nantahala ' cemetery, just above the Aquone bridge, and 18 in the Younce family cemetery near the mouth of Wine Spring creek. Land has been purchased for two new cemeteries, one at Kyle on the Aquone-Kyle road, on hind obtained from Mr. Marion Mock, the other on the Murphy road between Aquone and Andrews on land obtained from Miss M.'.E. Fergerson. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lambert an nounce the birth of a son, George Washington Lambert, on Feb. 22. Mr. and Mrs. , Don Hughes arc elated with the arrival of a new son; whom they call Dec. . Mr. Turner Holland, of Andrews, was over the past week looking after his lumber interest. He has been forced to' suspend hauling on account ef bad roads. PATTONS' Mr. Charlie Blaine and family have moved from their home to the Andy Henson place on the Georgia road. Arthur Blaine will move to the home vacated by his parents. Miss Myrtle Frances Wyatt, ac companied by Elizabeth Dowdle, Eliz abeth MqGuire, and Mary Jacobs hiked from Frankltn, Saturday after noon to visit Rebecca Angel and Hel Kn Patton. Mrs. John Blaine, who has been suffering from an ankle that she hurt Jin a fall, ' is much better now. r . , ' Mr. A. P. Angel visited his sister, IMrs. C. T. Judging from the number of to bacco beds here the farmers are very much interested in growing tobacco this year, Mr. Harve Picklesimer has moved into the Zeb Clouse house. Miss Lillian Patton was home from lier school at Hickory Knoll for the week-end and had as her guests Al tert and Grace Rogers. Mr. Oscar Dobson sold a bunch of cattle -a few days ago to Mr. Sam Henson from Jackson county. The truck load of them brought him $600. NORTH SKEENAH Mr. Lowren McConnell has got his crop of potatoes planted, and also lis mustard bed sown. , Mr. Freeman Hasting was in this 'section the past week and bought a cow and three calves from J. L. Sanders. Mr. Frank Shope visited his parents Saturday and Sunday. He went back to his job at Walhala, S. C, Sunday evening. Mr. George Cabe, of Riverside, vis ited his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Sanders, Monday. Mr. Quince Shope went to Cullo whee, Saturday, and returned Sunday. Mr. J. C. Sanders was in Franklin on business Saturday. , Mr: J. L. Sanders had a doctor with his children the past week. They have whooping cough. Mr. S. V. Stockton was' in Frank lin on business Monday. Mr. Erwin had the misfortune to get his foot cut last Tuesday. Mr. C. W. Teague was in this section Friday looking over the con tracted roads. FLATS Messrs. J. C. Morgan and Porter Ayers made a trip to Robbinsville with a truck load of potatoes during the past week. Their potatoes brought them around $2 per bushel. Mr. J. M. Cochran (Uncle Coon) was down on the square shopping during the week-end. Mr. Tom Kannady, of Franklin, salesman for Mahoney-Jones company, was calling on the merchants of Flats during the past week. Born to Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Lam bert, of Aquone, a fine boy, on Feb. 22. Mr. Clyde Deweese, of Hayesville, formerly of Flats, is visiting friends and relatives here. Mr. L. A. Boone's condition has improved quite a bit during the past few days. It is hoped that he will soon fully recover. Mr. T. C. McDonald, with Waitord Terrell company, was calling on the merchants during the past week. Mr. Johnnie Duvall, of Nantahala, was hurt a few days ago while labor ing for -the Nantahala Power com pany at Beecher. We understand that the Nantahala Power and Light company has its transmission line completed to Beech er; and has begun work on the tun nel. . CLEAR CREEK Mr. Preston Neely is building a kitchen to his house. Mr. Ed Henry, of Highlands, has been working for Mr. Preston Neely' for the past two weeks helping him on his house. Mr. Stonson Neely is building a house on his farm. Mr. Mark Burrell made two busi ness trips to Walhalla, S. ' C, last week with his horse team. Mr. Than Talley and Mr. Lyman Picklesimer have put logs to Mr. J. J. Smith's sawmill at Highlands for building purposes. Mr. Chas. Brooks, of Highlands, and Mr. E. P. Picklesimer have been putting logs into Mr. J. J. Smith's sawmill at Highlands for rebuilding purposes. Mr. Lyman Picklesimer and his wife went to stay all night with Mr. Picklesimer's parents Saturday night. While gone some thief, or thieves, broke in his chicken house by tearing off boards, and took one of his big hens. ' Mr. Hyatt Crunkleton, of High lands, was visiting at Mr. John Nix's last week-end. We had a very interesting Grange meeting last Friday night at the school house. Three new members were added to our number, Miss Ida Hunter and Messers Maiden Stan field and Lake Ledford. Miss Elizabeth Kelly had charge of the meeting and having just returned from Raleigh, was able to give us a brief outline of the state master's plans for North Carolina Grangers in 1930. Mr. Norman Mashburn, of Franklin, has moved back to his farm, in our community. Mr. Frank Carter, traveling sales man from Walhalla, S. C, was visit ing Mr. D. C. Stockton last week. Mr. H. L. Ammons has the cham pion potato patch of our section. He has just finished planting fifteen bush els. Rev. J. L. Teague is planning to put in an acre of tomatoes for the can nery. Mr. Dillard Frazier, of Seneca, . S. C, is visiting his father, M. E. Fra zier. Mr. Earl Henson, of East La Porte, was a business visitor to Prentiss, Saturday. Christine and Canon Guf fie are re covering from an attack of mumps. Miss Marie Vanhook has gone to Highlands to visit her sister, Mrs. Lee Keener. , ' Mr. and Mrs. Owen and small son, of Augusta, Ga., were visitors at Riverview farm last week. KYLE Mr. Andy Hughes, of Gainesville, Ga., was the week-end guest of Mr. Marion Mason. While pruning apple trees with an ax Mr. Dennis Younce cut his foot. He has not walked any yet, although the cut is thought not to be very serious. Mrs. Mattie Clark was the week end guest of her sister, Mrs. Lizzie Batcman. Mrs. Iva Lee Birch has been ill with "flu" but we are glad to know she is better. Little Miss Hazel Mason, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mason, got a painful though not serious injury when she fell Tuesday and stuck a stick in her neck. Mr. Harlie Younce spent the week end with home folks. He has been working at Rich Mountain on a log ging job. He returned Monday. Mr. Bill Cope is clearing land for his crop on Mr. Marion Lunsford's farm. Mr. Cope says he wil make, two hundred bushels of corn andj beans, and pumpkins in proportion. . Lee Baldwin made a business trip to Franklin, Monday. Mr, Regile, of Gainesville, Ga., was in Kyle last week prospecting for mineral on Mr, Jim Waters' farm. Mr. Auty Solcsbee's house was broken into last Sunday while Mr. Solesbee was at church. Two razors and a pocket knife were stolen. It is reported that Mr. Solesbee knows who the thieves are. WEST'S MILL During the past week Mr. Grady Reyno and family have been making their headquarters at ' West's Mill. Their business was buying cattle. Mr. Reyno and Carlyle , Sheffield made trips to Graham county, Nantahala, and other parts of Macon and adjoin ing counties. Mr. Reyno and family left for Haywood, Saturday, leaving the report that they would soon re-! turn. This is Mr. Reno's second trip to Macon on the cattle business Mr. A. L. Clark and W. M. Queen are on a timber deal. Mr. Clark is in the sawmill "business. Mr. J. B. Matlock went to Sylva last week on business. David , Kindle ' is at West's Mill for a few days. Mr. Kindle is from Georgia, where he worked for Mr. D. L. Clark for about two years. He went back to Georgia about a year ago where he has been ever since. ' Mr. Hill Holbrooks has under con struction, a new house near Har: mony school at the site of the old house which was sometime ago burn ed down: Mr. Tom Shepherd, of Sylva, is here on business. Mr. Frank Holbrooks, of Buncombe county; is here in partnership with Mr. Shepherd. County Agent Fred Sloan met the farmers of Cowee township at West's Mill post office for a discussion on farm crops for the coming year. Miss Virginia Rickmari i$ improv ing from sickness. Mrs. Margaret Sheoherd, of Leath erman, is ill. Mrs. Shepherd is about 70 vears of age. Mr. D. L. "Clark and son were in Bryson City and Sylva, Saturday on a business trip. Charlie Shields has become a man ufacturer of church benches. SCALY This community Was saddened Sun day morning, March 2, by the death of Mr. Jeff Pierson. His death was not unexpected to his friends cs . he had been in failing health since he moved to this section a few Weeks ago. He will be buried at the Fiatt's Baptist church on Monday, March 3. He leaves besides his wife, one son, Roderich, of this place, and one in South Carolina. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Grover Johnson, on February 20, a baby b'-y. Miss Grace Billingsley has return ed home from Easley, S. C, where she has been working for sometime. Messrs. Marshall and John Burnette made a business trip to Clayton, Ga., last Wednesday. . Mr. and Mrs. Harley McCall and children from Clayton, Ga., visited Mr. McCall's parents, Mr, and Mrs. Tom McCall, one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar James made a business trip to Clayton, Ga., last Fri day. Mr. Frank Blackwell spent a few days at Clayton court last week. Mrs. Will McClure, of Canada, N. C, and Mrs. Rockaway Mitchell, of Clayton, Ga., are spending a few days with their parents, M. and Mrs. Tom McCall. Messers John Burnette and Ernest Vinson made a trip to Lowell, N. C, to bring Mrs. Burnette's sister, Edna McConnell, to spend 'the summer with them. Edna's mother died a few weeks ago. ... . Mr. and . In spite of the snow and wind in March 2, a nice little picnic was n joyed on top of Rabun Bald bv Mrs. Irene James and a few friends, ;o- gcther with the fire guard, Robert Singleton. After the picnic dinner the party enjoyed listening to the string musk made by Mr. Singleton. The thermometer registered n four teen above zero on top of the moun tan that morning. UPPER IOTLA Mr. Bob Ray, of Cowee, spent the past week on Iotla looking after his mining interests. He returned to his home Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith and two children, of Asheville, are visiting at the home of Mrs. Smith's . parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Fouts. Messrs. W. T. Fouts and W. T. Roper made a business trip to Sylva, Monday of last week. Mrs. Nondus Fouts is visiting her parents at. Proctor, N. C. Mr. John Parrish, of Rose Creek, was shopping at W. T. Fout's store Friday of last week. Mrs. Moses has recently purchased land from Mr. John Slagle on Upper Iotla and is building a bungalow, which will son be ready for occupy ing. ' ' - Little Ama Jean and J. L. Fouts, children of Mr. and Mrs. D- C. Fouts, are very sick with whooping cough. Mr. Harry. Ray, of Oak Dale, spent the, week-end with his family on Iotla.
