Chapter of the American Red Cross

Miss Lillie Rankin, who has spent
several months in Jacksonville, Fla.,
returned, to Franklin this week.
Mr. E- B- Dellart attended the
funeral of a relative in Easley, S. G,

Mr. Ed Carpenter, of Ellijay, visit
ed relatives in Franklin last Sunday.
Mr. William Crawford passed
through Franklin last Sunday on his
way to enter W. C. T. C. at Cul
lowhee. Mr. and Mrs' J. Harry Thomp
son, of Bluefield, W. V., are visit
ing Mrs. Thompson's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. A. J. Evans, on Cullasaja.
They will be in Macon for 10 days. .
Mrs. W. F. Curtis is visiting her
sisters, Ms. J. P. Price, of Alber
marle, and Mrs. George H. Crowelle,
of High Point. Mr. Curtis motored
to these points with his wife, but re
turned to Franklin on Friday.

King's Mountain, visited friends and
relatives in Franklin and at his old
home on Ellijay last week.

ploye of Zeb Angel, suffered an
acute attack of appendicitis last

Mr. John B. Byrne, junior forester
of the Nantahala National forest, is
in Cherokee and Graham counties
this week on forestry business.
Ranger Z. B. Byrd, of the Nanta
hala National forest, whose "head
quarters are at Andrews, was in Ma

Mr. A. J. Ritchie, industrial super
visor of the Rabun Gap-Nacoochie
school, was in Franklin last Tuesday
on business
Mr. and Mrs. Louie Phillips went
to Daytona Beach, Fla., week before
last to see Kay Don, the noted Eng
lish racer, try for the world's fpeed
record. Owing to a slight roughness
of the speedway the race has not
yeUbeen held, so Mr. and Mrs. Phil
lips only saw the racer in a pre
liminary try out, in which, however
he made 198 miles an hour. They
returned to Franklin last Monday
night.
Gaorge Jones and Will Higdon,
Jr., came through Fankliri, Monday
night, on their way to Chapel Hill
from Atlanta, New Orleans, and oth
er points in the South.
Mrs. George A. Jones, who has
been on an extended visit with her
son, J. W. Jones, of Weaverville,
returned home Friday. '
'Mr. I. L. Easton, who is working
for the Aluminum Company of Amer
ica at Calderwood, Tenn., spent Sun
day'in Franklin with his family. The
work at Calderwood is about com
pleted and Mr. Easton intends to
leave shortly for Virginia. His fam
ily will remain in Franklin for the
present. , '
Prof. M. D. Billings returned from
Raleigh last week where he attended
the Teacher's convention.
Mrs. Theodore S. Munday, owner
of the Maretta Beauty Shoppe, is
attending the Southeastern . States

dressers convention in Atlanta this
week. There will be demonstrations
and lectures in permanent waving,
h&irdressing. and facial and scalp

to be able to bring home the newest

Womans' Mass
Meeting
A mass meeting will be held the
latter part of this week for the pur
pose of organizing a Womans' club,
which will be, in fact, an amalgama
tion of the various clubs of the town
into one club with departments of
music, literature, dramatics, civics
and such other departments as seem
best suited to the needs of our, com
munity.. Miss Elizabeth Kelly, who was for
several years a member of the Wo
mans' club of Raleigh, will explain
the advantages of 'fcuch a club, and
it is hoped that every woman who
is now a member of any club, or who
is interested in any kind of club
work will be present.
Time and place of the meeting will
be given later.
P.-T. A. Exhibit
The P.-T. A. sponsored. a most in
teresting picture exhibit at the school
house last week. The exhibit was
entirely jiree and gave to the school
children and the people throughout
the county an opportunity to see and
to study excellent reproductions of
pictures only found in the largest
picture galleries. Those who failed
to take advantage of this opportunity
missed something.
Contract Bridge
Classes
Mrs. Geo. Lyle Jones, of Ashe
ville, began her classes in contract
bridge here last Friday evening.
