Nail and Master Billy Nail went to Atlanta, last Wednesday, returning Friday. Mr, Haworth Beale fell from a moving automobile" last week having the misfortune to break three ribs, but at this time he is improving and we hope will soon be out agairh Miss Valerie Dougal was in High lands, Tuesday on her way from St. Augustine, Fla., to Asheville. Mallard and Miss Mar garet Ley burn, ; all of Atlanta, were Highlands visitors last week. Mr. F. H. Norton, of Franklin, deputy sheriff and candidate for sher iff, was in town on business and to! see his friends Wednesday, May 7. Col. and Mrs. Sewell, of Birming ham, Ala., arrived for the summer Tuesday, May 6. Miss Ethel Calloway was hostess at a delightful square dance given at her home last Friday evening. The guests enjoyed four sets to. the un usually good music provided. Excel lent refreshments were served. Judge and Mrs. R. L. Morris have arrived to, spend the summer at their home, Chestnut Lodge. Mrs. Morris is the former Mrs. Lamb of Union Pont, Ga. Her marriage occurred in the early spring. Judge Morris is from Virginia. but is better. "1 Mr. Clyde Hall of Marble is visit ing his brother, Mr. 0. C. Hall. After spending the winter with her grandmother on Burningtown, Miss Nannie Bateman has returned home. Local Rotarians Go To Conference Rotarians from Franklin who at tended the 58th district conference of Rotary International held in Hen- dersonville on Monday and Tuesday were Devereux Rice, S. A. Harris, Harold Sloan, Dick Jones, Tommy Arigel, and Fred Sloan. These mem bers attended the' first day's session only, with the exception of Mr. Rice who stayed over for Tuesday's ses- sions. Mrs. mce accompanied Jier husband to Hendersonville. Representatives from the 47 Rotary clubs in Western North Carolina and in all of South Carolina were sched uled to attend the conference. Mr. Robert Johnston, who has been visiting his mother for the past 10 days, left Tuesday morning for Tampa where he will begin his duties as southern representative of the Pen nington. Brokerage company of Evans ville, Ind. Mr. Johnston was ac companied as far as Sylvester, Ga.. by. Mrs. Mary Allman, who will visit Mr. W. R. , Johnston and family of that city. . J. C. Guest Dies At Franklin Home J. C. Guest, 67, died 'at his home near Franklin on .May 2 following a period of illness. Funeral services. were held at the Watauga Baptist church and interment was in the cemetery of the church. Service were conducted by Rev. A. S. Soles- bee, aided by Rev. Dr. W, E. Aber nethy. Air. Guest had been a valued em ploye of the Knoxville Power com-' pany at Calderwood, Tenn. Officials, of this company sent a letter of sym pathy to the, widow of the deceased, along with a check to help cover funeral expenses. , , Besides his widow, Mr. Guest is survived by four sons, Fred, Jim, George and Charles, of Franklin, and. by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Yeoman,, of Franklin. Mr. George Johnston left Wed nesday morning for Charlotte, where he expects to be about a week on business for the Western Carolina Telephone company. About 50 relatives and friends were present. All their living children except one ; were there and a number of grandchildren 'and great grandchildren. Mrs. Barak Wright and Mr. John Phillips who witnessed the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Callo way fifty years ago were there. Mrs. Wright made the wedding dress for Mrs. Calloway. Four generations were present at the celebration. A big picnic dinner was spread outside at noon. This was a very festal affair with toasts and speeches by various ones. Mr. E. T. Calloway spoke in behalf of the children and Miss . Ethel Calloway in behalf of the grandchildren. After the bountiful dinner pictures were taken of the ones who attend ed the wedding half a century ago, of the children and grandchildren, al so of the "bride and groom." Mr. and Mrs. Calloway's children from other towns who attended the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Lang ston of Anderson, S. C, Mr. E. T. Calloway of Hot" Springs, and Mr. J. P. Calloway of St. Petersburg, Fla. Many attractive gifts were given to Mr. and Mrs. Calloway, among them being forty dollars, much of ' it in gold, from various members, of the family. KYLE Mrs. Luna Anderson, Mrs. Alaska Web and Mr. Carlyle Anderson, of Bryson City, were visiting friends and relatives in Kyle, Saxturday. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Cope, of Burn ingtown, spent Saturday night with their daughter, Mrs. Emma Waters. Mrs. Elule Cots and little daughter of Marble was the week-end guests of Mrs. Maude Haney. Messrs. Clayton Bateman and Hem mie Jefferson and Misses Gaynell Johnson and Vella Solesbee motored down to Nantahala, Sunday. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Fletch Younce, May 1, a fine boy. Misses May Deny and Alice Owen by of Flats spent the week-end in Kyle. , Mr. and Mrs. B. H.. Hawk and children of Aquone attended church at Kyle, Sunday.
