Fifty-Two of Each 100 From
14 To 20 Not Enrolled
In Schools
Raleigh, June 30. Figures sent out
Jby the Federal Board for vocational
education show that of every 100 farm
txys in North Carolina between the
.ages of 14 and 20, 52 are out of school
and 48 . arc in school, according to
Roy II. Thomas, state supervisor of
-vocational agriculture. The Federal
"Board for vocational education sta
tistics show that the farm boys be
tween the ages of 14 and 20 number
111,939 and that they comprise 14.7
Ter cent of the state's entire male
population. Of this number 54,055 are
attending school while 57,884 are out
of school
Of the 54,055 who are in school
only one out of 11 is receiving train
ing designed to prepare him for the
ominess of fanning and life on the
farm. This specific training for lift
on the farm is being given by de
partments of vocational agriculture in
454 high schools.
1 Survey Results
A survey of 1,000 farm boys in 33
comities of the state shows that the
average North Carolina farm boy out
of school between the ages of 14 and
2 k about 18 1-2 years of age and
lias an education midway between the
seventh and eighth grades. Of these
boys out of school, 04 per cent (near
ly two-thirds) work on the farm as
helpers, 28 per cent get a share of
the crop, and eight per cent arc part
owners. The survey also reveals that
of every 100 boys out of school on
the farm now, 21 left school to help
at home; 41 stopped on account of
being dissatisfied with school; 31
left to make money; poor health and
failure in school work caused six to
leave, and only one of the 100 grad
uated from high school.

USE FOR PORCH BOUQUET
Use golden rod blooms and other
flowers with a strong scent as porch
bouquets, but do no, bring them into
the house. Their odor, in a warm
room, makes some persons feel ill
but in the open air their beauty may
be enjoyed. Never use any flowers
with a heavy perfume for table dec
orations, as they may spoil the ap
petite of those about the table.
RICH WET LANDS

sical. We cannot enter extensively
into a discussion of chemistry of
soils, but will advise that the State
agricultural colleges stand ready to
aid in this matter and that the treat
ment most often needed for flats
after drainage is lime..
The physical properties of land are
sometimes wonderfully improved by
getting rid of surplus water and let
ting in air and sunshine, with of
course judicious cultivation. Water
on land in winter does not seem to
do much injury but if it is still
there when warm weather sets in
there results a "sourness" (be that!
what it may) that hinders productive
ness even t!io it dries out later. It
is suspected that bacterial activity
has much to do with this matter; but
our problem is to get rid cf t!

MRS. LILLIE GARLAND JARVIS
my friends all marvel at my wonder
ful recovery.
"Pains and swelling, started in- ray
hand and extended into my left side,
arm and lower limb. I couldn't walk
a step or raise my hand to my head.
My trouble was diagnosed as inflama
tory rheumatism. My kidneys were
disordered, my weight dropped- to 97
pounds and. I suffered with sick head
aches and indigestion. Four bottles
of this wonderful Sargon recondition
ed my whole system and ended every
one of my ailments! I'm ) up and
about as good as anybody and have
already regained 10 pounds of my
lost weight!
"I took Sargon Pills right along
with the liquid and the way they
stimulated my liver . and rid me of
constipation without the least upset
ting is perfectly remarkable." Mrs.
Lillie Garland Jarvis, Woodfin Station,
