Cook them together, one fourth as much quince as apple. Apples and pine apple combine well into a sauce. Add minced pineapple to the apple sauce. Add one cup of cranberries to one of apples and make a sauce. It will be a pretty pink. To serve with hot pork roast, try apples and onions, combin ing equal quantities of unsweetened apple sauce and cooked onions. This should be served hot. o The first few weeks in the feed lot is a critical time for feeder steers. Following a traditional custom centurics-old the Eastern Band of Cherokee fnilians living peacefully on their reserva tion in the foothills of the Great Smoky mountains near Ashcvillc will celebrate with their native dances and sports the harvest csason of 1930.. The events which will attract a great throng of spectators this year will be held at Cherokee, N. C, October 7 to 10. To the accompaniment of drums and rattles and primitive musical in struments, the Big Cove Indians, a division of the Eastern Band will per form the annual Green Corn Dances which have been celebrated for cen turies by the Cherokees as thanks giving dances in honor of the ripen ing maise. Men and women will take part in the dances in groups of a score or more in each dance, the per formers wearing native costumes. Features of the Cherokee Fair will also be the Indian ball games played with ball sticks like small tennis rackets and according to rules sim ilar to the modern game of lacrosse. This game played by the Cherokees is in fact a preservation of the origi nal form of lacrosse. Naked with the exception of trunks, feathers and painted totem the play ers during the annual fair will enter into the spirit of the game with the keen rivalry which makes the sport a far more exciting event than foot ball. Thousands of friends and sup porters of the teams cheering on the sidelines will add to the color and pageantry of the sport. The ball games, the archery con tests, the blowgun events, the dances and the exhibition of beadwork, agri cultural products, basketry and other handwork of native Indian craftsmen will make the Indian fair this fall a colorful celebration.
