T!o the. pioneering days arc over, li tre conns once in a while an occasion in the lives of some of our mountain school teachers, situa tions where they are called upon to meet the extraordinary. 'Miss Grace Carpenter, who. teaches at Otter Creek school over near Flats turned detec tive a few days ago as the following report vindicates : 'Last Thursdaywhile Miss Carpen ter was at her school some one en tered her boarding house by a back bed room window and made a' get away with clothing,' money and a pis- , tol. She went to the post master and reported the facts. With him she turned detective arid began to ques- ' tion certain individuals ' and doing other ' things', that seemed to show that the guilty party was known. In a .: couple oi hours a very scared mountain youth with , lanky and un couth appearance, so the story goes came to Miss carpenter . and saw that he heard she had been robbed, He thought that he might sound out a couple . of ' bad boys that be . knew arid would in an -probability, get some trace of . the stolen goods. ; He was told to proceed v with his sluething. Very shortly he " returned with the stolen articles . and reported thaf the boys :4 he thought knew ; something about them helped him ; go to some otheV boys on whom' they found the stolen articlesall but the clothes He and his friends took the things away from the ( culprits and ; brought ;them safely to tehir rightful owner as hon est boys should. - : ; o-i rr . f NORTH SKEENAH fr.'w.
