This 19th day of October, 1931. A. B. SLAGLE, Sheriff, Macon County, J. O. U. A. M. NEWS CORRAL Edited by JOHN W. EDWARDS To' begin with, the "J. O. U. A. M. News Corral" is a new feature of The Franklin Press. Mr. Black bum W. Jo'iinson, the editor of Tin- Press, has treely given us Juniors space each week for ' our news ; and in return every Junior in the county should be a sub scriber to The Press. If every lodge in the county would send to me each week their council news I would arrange it to suit bur column and have' it printed. The aim is to have a complete write-up of all the important hap penings concerning the Juniors in the county; occasionally printing state and national happenings which have a direct interest to us Macon Juniors,. If we carry out our work as intended we should not only be well posted about our own affairs; but at the same time b.- adve-tising our order. By con stancy keeping our lodge before flic eyes of the public we are placing our order in a position to gain in popularity and member ship. v Now, brother Juniors, here we go ! You should be sure that The ' Press is coming to your home each week, and help out the broth er who may not be a subscriber by seeing what he' ismissing, and gei him. lied up with The Press. Pc sure that your council has soi;ieone to send in. the news of yniir council each week. Just inriij it 10 John W. Edwards, Bov 321,. Fr: nklin, N. C, and it will be published, al once. See that all in v.s is in by 'Saturday that yon want published in the next Thurs day's Press. L F.T'S CO! DO YOUR SHARE!' INSURANCE There is a difference in life insurance. The old line life in surance and the fraternal- life in stil ance are each commendable in their accomplishments, but the fra ternal life insurance has the lead in worthiness. There arc men who would never think of taking out life insurance, yet they arc anxious to join some fraternal organization. The Junioi Order is a lodge for Americans and it carries insurance for its members. In reading the short story below can you sec the dif ference between fraternal insurance .and tfie old line insurance?' "BROTHERHOOD" Jake Ryne was approaching the age of forty when he moved into the Meadow Land community. His wife and three small children rang ing from the age of four to ten years completed the family. Jake had always been a happy-go-easy with no worry about the 'morrow. He had been short two hundred dollars when he bought the thirty acre farm; thus his early life in Meadow Land was more burden some by the two hundred dollar debt. . Mrs. Ryne had often begged Jake to carry some life insurance, but Jake had always laughed off the affair, and besides claimed he wasn't able to pay down a first payment on insurance. Now the Meadow Land commun ity had, besides churchea and a school, another great public institu tion ; that was Meadow Land Coun cil No. 642, Junior Order of the United American Mechanics Lodge. Jake found that if he was to take a hand in the leading social ac tivities -of the community, he would have to join, the order. So one day Jake approached Mrs. Ryne with the subject: "Mol ly, if I ever get in the life of this community 1 will haveto join the Juniors. All the leading men of the community are members ahd it seems that everything of im portance for the good of the com munity gets its start in that Junior Hall. 'The men are always telling me of the good the lodge has done, or has started to do now. I'm going to qoin." Mrs. Ryne was greatly pleased and encouraged Jake all she could. A week from the date of the resolution, Jake was a Junior. ' The Rynes mov'ed into the Mead ow Land community in early spring. Their crops were soon making green the fertile land of their farm. Jake seemed to be getting more out of life since he had become a Junior. He was on to. all moves of progress and good will, the community enjoyed, first handed as the Juniors were the improvers in' the community. It seemed as though Mother Nature was blessed with growing weather all the spring. , Rains were just plentiful enough mixed with the growing sun rays, and the crops were on the road to be bump ers. Jake was cutting hay one day, and had stepped out in front of his spirited team of horses to adjust something about the head gears; then he discovered that he had stopped the teafn oVtf I yfci low jackets' nest. Before he could check the team they had bolted, knocking him down, running over his body and dragging the mowing machine after them. His body was such a wreik thai the doctors announced that death would come at once. But death was cheated for three months and a few days. The brother Juniors came in and gave him all' comfort that was in their power to render. They stacked his hay; later stored the crops in barn and crib, while at the lodge hall they kept up his dues. Death came at last On one cloudy, gloomy clay in the late fall, but the Juniors were there to pay their last respect. The National lodge sent along a few days later a certified check for five hundred dollars. 'V ' Wk' o..lWWH)..a..."t :: uimitthil Uti HIM 'fir CT Stop in Atlanta . . . Franklin, Nov. 9. (Special to The Press.) Mr. C, M. Moore, our own brother Junior and Democratic elected coroner of Macon county, became greatly excited one day last week. He, for some reaso;i, went out into the frost very early; maybe to feed the cows, and I e saw a pray fox trotting around his garden. He rushed to one of the leading fox hunter's home and borrowed some fox hounds but they didn't fox race at all. ; Mr. Moore lives in Franklin, about one block northwest of the Nantahala creamery. It is' not the "proper thing to say that the beast he saw wasn't a fox ; -for one of the good neighbor ing women said she Saw it and a big dog wasn't larger. Then where does tfie doubt come in? The dogs wouldn't run the animal and it was heard spoken by another man in that community that it must have been a gray squirrel. ' Tul one vs. jeorgia NOV. M J circulating ice water nit ..
