CARPENTER, Administrator N26-4tC J&J-Dlf JJT- FOR BROTHER CUNNINGHAM Funeral services were field Tlmrs day afternoon ' at Maple Springs P.aptist church, in Swain county, for Brother. Rufus T. Cunningham. Brother Cunningham was 69 years of age, and spent his last' days at his daughter's home, Mrs. J. II. Coffey, of Bryson City. Brother Cunninghn's 1 death came late Wednesday night after several months of poor health. His home was at Almond but had spent Several week with his daughter at Bryson City. ' Brother Cunning ham was born in Macon county on April 8. 1862, later moving to Needmore, in Swain county, and there married Miss Mary J. Dc Hart. . At one time Brother Cunning ham was in the mercantile busU ness. Later he began farming on a large scale. ' ' ' He is survived by several chil dren including Mr. Robert Cun ningham, who w6rks in the east ern part of the state as a highway foreman, but owns a homefl Green street, where his family lives. . Brother Cunningham was a char ter member of the Cullasaja lodge of the J. O. U. A. M. He worked faithfully for the lodge from the first until' the end.' He was great Junior and lived, up "to the brotherhood. . , The Juniors of Cullasaja Coun cil failed to bury Brother Cunning ham due to some misunderstand ing of some kind. PERSONAL MENTION Mr. Robert L. Poindexter has been walking the roads with in- flamation of the cellular tissue and periosteum on a finger In other words he has a felon on his finger. Mr. Poindexter has all the Brothers' sympathy, but I bet that doesn't ease his pain. Brother C. M. Moore has been very ill with a case "of fishing fever. But it hasn't killed him after worrying " with it for nearly sixty years. It has changed lately from bass to red-horse fever, but the latter is not deadly. Three weeks of our J. O. U. A. M. news corral and not a line from any brother. This -corner, as explained before, is for all Juniors to use. When you have any news when you have any thing to tell the brotherhood for their good, you are urged to send in that news. Make this corner a county gossiping place for Jun ior news. I am going to try to please you one and all, but' unless "O ositive of Word WmNomr. . . R ' " JO. City of Detroit purchases 137 Hundreds now in use prove low THESE 137 new Ford cars represent one of the largest deliveries ever made" to a municipality at one time. 21 radio-equipped Ford scout cars were traded in on this purchase. They had been operated day and night for two years in heavy traffic and all kinds of weather. Their individual records ranged from 78,434 miles to 143,723 miles with a grand total of 2,283,097 miles. The operating cost of the 21 cars was 2.284 cents a mile less than 2 13 cents. This cost included all fuel, oil, tires, repairs and every other item except depreciation and insurance. " Of 577 Ford cars in Detroit City service, the 300 in the Police Department traveled a total of 6,591,937 miles during the past fiscal year, at an average cost of 2.9 cents a mile. Many claims have been made on operat ing costs, but here in the carefully kept motor car records of the City of Detroit is positive proof of Ford economy. In the paragraphs above, it is seen that 21 Ford icout cars averaged less than 2 13 you Help, niayoe i, wont. so please sec that your Council has something to be published each VVt'ek. . Day and night, twenty-four hours a day, these Ford cars are in operation. Few branches of transportation demand such grueling service. The records show that low fuel and oil consumption is but one of the Ford's many economies. Ford ma terials, simplicity of design and accuracy in manufacturing provide unusual strength, stamina and freedom from replacements and repairs.
