Society and Personal OES Officers Installed In Impressive Ceremony Oce Chapter No. 139, Order of the Eastern Star, held a special meeting Monday evening, March 31, in the Masonic Hall, Dillsboro, for the purpose of conferring the degrees of the Order upon Mrs. Ella Walker Moore and Mrs. Nell Johnson Candler, and installing the new officers for the ensuing year. C. Jane Long Celebrates Fourth Birthday On Wednesday afternoon, March 26th, Mrs. J. R. Long entertained with a children's party, honoring her young daughter, Jane, on her fourth birthday. A color scheme of pink and white was carried out in both the decorations and the refreshments. Miss Ella Jane Allen of Dills boro supervised the little folk in their games and' songs. The dining room table had been arranged with the birthday cake ments of pink candles at either end. After the children wfere served ice cream and cake they were seated at trrjall tables with covers of pink crepe paper, ruffled in white. Plates with white doilies and pink nut cui*> were used. The*onoree received, a number of lovely gifts. A large number of the hon oree's friends wefe present. T\\1j romantic contests were a part of the evening's entertain ment. In these Mrs. Don Fisher and Mrs. Joe Davis were winners and were given prizes. The lovely collection of gifts were presented to Mrs. Clayton by means of a treasure hunt. The gifts had been hidden over the house and she found them by means of directions placed with each gift which told her where to look for the next one. This was an educational, recrea tional and business meeting. Miss Maude Searcy of Bakersville was hostess for the occasion. Miss Mary Cornwell, Cherokee Home agent and president of the association, presided at the business sessions. Various crafts were studied and engaged in by the 19 agents pres ent. From there-they went to Greenville where they spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Shrader. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Buchanan left Friday for Savannah, Ga. to visit Mr. Buchanan's brother, Ralph Buchanan, and family. Miss Nelle Bond returned Mon day from her home in Union City, Tenn. where she was called on ac count of the illness of her mother. While at home Miss Bond's father passed away at a Memphis hos pital where he was a patient, but his condition was not considered so serious, and his sudden passing was unexpected at that time. Miss Bond states that her mother's con dition is some imp^ved. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hooper went to Montreat Sunday to visit their daughter, Miss Anna Maude, a student there in the high school de partment of Montreat college. C. Mr. Harmon Queen remains crit ically ill at his home on Cullowhee highway. He is the father of Miss Sadie Queen, owner of Queen's Beauty Shoppe. Mr. Ralph Brunett was a busi ness visitor in Knoxville, Monday. Rev. and Mrs. H. C. Freeman of Woodleaf, spent three days last week with their daughter, Mrs. Gudger Fortner, and Mr. Fortner.
