Society and Personal Mrs. Jones Honors Daughter On Birthday On Thursday evening Mrs. \V. L. Jones entertained a group of young girls honoring her daughter, Aud-' rey Jane, on her 11th birthday. A scavenger hunt had been arranged for the girls to work in pairs. Patsy Buckner and Janice Holden won the prize for bringing back the largest number of the articles named, and Edith Moore and Caro lyn Moore were given a prize for bringing in the silliest thing. Other games were played before Mrs. Jones invited the young folk into the dining room where they cream, and punch from a t;.ble which had for its central decora tion a large birthday cake trim med in green and pink and flanked on either side with lighted tapers. The guests were Jean Cogdill, Joyce Nicholson, Patsy Buckner, Edith Moore, Leah Suton, Gail Webber, Anne Cathey, Shirley Hartmann, Mary Mason, Carolyn Moore, Rachel Karp, Merita Ann Cannon, Linda Moody, Janice Holden and Bessta Bryson. Charles Reed and Robert Allison joined' the girls for refreshments. The honoree received a number of nice gifts. % ? ? * * * McCracken-Bryson Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. A. J. McCracken of Lake Junaluska have announced the engagement of4 their daughter^ Miss Mabel Ann McCracken, to Carroll Bryson, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Bryson, Jr., of Sylva. Miss McCracken graduated from Western'Carolina Teachers College last quarter and will receive her diploma thjs spring. Mr. Bryson graduated from Sylva High school and later served for sometime with the U. S. Navy. He is rrow employed as distributor with Tom's Toasted Peanuts. She selected for her subject three women char acters of the Bible and spoke on them, stressing some unusual points in the life of each. Mrs. Morris Hostess For Twentieth Century Club The April meeting of-vhe Twen tieth Century club was held Thurs day afternoon with Mrs. John Mor ris, hostess, at her home in Sylva, with an unusually large attend ance ol 20 members and one visi tor. Mrs. E. L. McKee, president, was in charge while the business was being transacted. Mrs. McKee then presented Mrs. H. T. Hunter, guest speaker, who ' had chosen lor her subject, "Agcn- , eies in Jackson county lor Making i Better'Homes." Mrs. Hunter point ed out that an architect and con tuses the people living in it to make a home and it is up to them to avail themselves of every help. She named as some of these agen cies in Jackson county, the church and its associate groups, the schools and Parent-Teacher associations, the libraries, the radio, and the Home and Farm agents.\ ^he then spoke of the Four Freedoms and insisted that we use them but not be guilty of abusing tjiem. Mrs. Morris, assisted by little Donna Hennessee, served a salad course. Judy Murmillo Honored At Birthday Party Mrs. T. J. Murmillo honored her daughter, Judy, on her fourth birthday anniversary at a birthday party at her home in Addie on Saturday, April 12. At the conclu sion of the games little Miss Brenda Henson and Master Carl Jones were awarded prizes. The birthday cake, decorated with a wreath of pink flowerets with green leaves and bearing four pink candles, was cut and served to the little guests with ice cream and punch.
