Mr. And Mrs. Parris Given
Surprise Anniversary Party
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Parris
were honored on their forty-sec
ond wedding anniversary at a sur
prise party at their home in Addie,
Wednesday, April 23, by Mrs. Jim
my Morris, Mrs. Isaac Brooks, and
Mrs. T. J. Mermillo.
Mr. Parris, away at his regular
employment, Mrs. Parris was pur
posely called to a neighbor's house.
Wheh she returned home about
thirty minutes later, she found to
her surprise the hostesses and in
vited guests assembled in the liv
ing room. She was then presented
a number, of lovely and useful

Mrs. Parris and friends were
minvited into, the dining room
Jjreshments. The table, cov
ered with an imported linen cloth,
had for its centerpiece a two-tiered
wedding cake decorated in pink
and green with the words, "42nd
Anniversary, Eva and John." With
the coke were served congealed
fruits, punch, and nuts.
Enjoying the occasion with Mrs.
Parris were, Mrs. Georgia Mae

Mrs. Cope Entertains
For Daughter
On her seventh birthday anni
versary Betty Ann Cope was given
a birthday party by her mother,
Mrs. Bart Cope, Monday afternoon
at which time members of her
class at school were guests. Mrs.
Emily Tompkins supervised the
playing of several games. In a
guessing game Betty Ann's young
est brother, Kenneth, kept the
children guessing longer than any
one else.
At the conclusion Mrs. Cope
served the class ice cream, cookies,
and candy. Every one had a good
time.

Is Honoree At Shower
Mrs. Frances Bradley enter
tained with a shower for Mrs.
Elizabeth Clayton Davis at the
home of Mrs. James T. Davis Sat
urday evening at 8 o'clock. Games
were played -and later a salad
course was served by the hostess.
Mrs. Davis received many lovely
gifts.

Entertains HDC Group
Mrs. Gordia Whitted entertained
the Glenville Home Demonstration
Club at her home on Monday af
ternoon, with eighteen members
~ present. Miss Helen Sossamon,
home agent, gave a demonstration
on roll making. Following the
demonstration a social hour was
held. The hostess served delicious
refreshments.
Bessta Bryson
Celebrates Birthday
On Thursday afternoon Mrs.
Jennings Bryson entertained a
number of girls honoring her
daughter, Bessta, on her eleventh
birthday.
Included in the entertainment
of the guests -were a relay race,
fortune telling, and a number of
other games and contests. The
seven girls on the winning side in
the relay race were given prizes.
Others winning prizes were Shirley
Hartmann and Earlene Hurst;
The children were invited to the
dining room where a color scheme
of pink and white had been carried
centerpiece.
The cake was served wfch ice
cream which further emphasized
the color note.
Girls ,making up the guest list
were Mary Mason, Leah Sutton,
Janice Holden, Audrey Jane Jones,
Linda Moody, Carolyn Moore,
Edith Moore, Wanda Blanton, Anne
Cathey, Sarah Lou Cagle, Shirley
Hartmann, Rachel Karp and Earl
ene Hurst.

Savannah PTA Has
Annual Study Course
The Savannah Parent-Teacher
association held its annual study
course in an all-day meeting at
the school house Friday, April 24,
beginning at 10 o'clock. Mrs. R.
U. Sutton and Mrs. W. Q. Grigg
were in charge of* the study. The
association and leaders were de
lighted with the attendance- of
twenty-five members present. Mrs.
Roger Dillard was chairman in
charge of the meeting.
Following *the study course of
ficers for the association for the
school year 1947-48 were elected
as follows; President, Mrs. Frank
Cagle; vice-president, Mrs. James
Brogden; secretary, Mrs. Joan Bar
rett; treasurer, Mrs. Bragg Allison.
At the conclusion of the meet
ing parents of the children to take
part in the program of the school
to be given Tuesday, May 13, were
given detailed instructions on the
making of the costumes.
Lunch was served in the school
lunch room.

At the regular monthly meeting

Miss Helen Sossamon, county lead
er of the group, discussed and pre
pared a typical balanced break
fast of the lesson with the girls
of the organization. Mr. Snipes,
farm agent in charge of the work
with the boys, held an open forum
on the farm work engaged in by
them.
Prior to the demonstration and
forum the group repeated the club
pledge and motto, and then the
program committee presented (a
short play on Vitamin C.

Teacher With Shower

School class of the Hamburg Bap
tist Cijurch honored their teacher,
Mrs. Ada McCoy with a handker
chief shower at the home of Mrs.
Bonnie Bryson Wednesday after
noon, April 23rd. Mrs. Bryson pre
sented a cake bearing three candles
for the three years Mrs. McCoy has
been teaching the class.
The home was beautifully decor
ated with spring flowers. Games
were enjoyed throughout the eve
ning. Each member of the class
brought a covered dish for re
freshments which was an enjoyable
part of the occasion.

On Wednesday evening Oce
chapter No. 139, Order of the East,
ern Star, met in regular session
in the Masonic Hall in Dillsboro.
At this time District Grand Matron
Mrs. Mary Swann of Andrews and
District Deputy Grand Patron Ben
ny McGlamery of Franklin made
their official visit.
The district officers spoke very
highly of the work being accom
plished by Oce chapter.
Three candidates were elected
to receive the degrees of the order.
The hostesses, Mrs. Virginia Cox
and Mrs. Betty Parnell, served a
delicious salad course.
The recently elected matron,
Mrs. Juanita Ferguson, presided at
this meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wilson and
little son, Wayne, returned Sunday
from Murfreesboro, Tennessee
where they spent last week with
Dr. and Mrs. R. L. Gamewell and
daughter, Aleta.
Billy Sutton, -a Merchant Marine
who makes regular cruises to Hol
land, is spending two weeks here
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
L. Sutton. This is Billyh first trip
since January.
Miss Peggy Jo Sutton spent the
week-end in Hickory with Miss
Doris Bowman.
Mr. and Mrs. James Kindley of
Indian Trail were recent guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Griffin Middleton.

trip to Richmond and Raleigh. Mrs.

Charles Tolley A S of the Unit
ed State Navy left Sunday to re
turn to his base at Bainbridge, Md.,
after spending 12-day leave with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ran Tol
ley of Sylva. Young Toliey com
puted boot training at Bainbridge
just before his leave. His mother
and Mrs. Fred Coggins accom
pained him as far as Asheville on
his return to Maryland.
Mrs. J. H. Wilson was called to
Celina, Tennessee Tuesday morn
ing on account of the illness of her
grandson, young son of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Webber. Mrs. Wilson
was accompanied to Celina by her
son, Wade Wilson.
