The American Legion baseball
team dropped its second home
^ .. ??sfa,sian._to Andrews
Sunday afternoon, 6-3.
The difference in the game came
in the second inning when an error
and 4 safeties gave Andrews a 4-0 I
lead. Sylva scored one run in the
4th and 2 in tHe 7th. The Andrews
boys came back in the 8th inning
to put the game on ice by taking
advantage of Cunningham's wild
ness.
Sylva out hit the visitors by col<
lecting 10 safeties to 7 for the An
drews boys. Parker, Andrews
pitcher, kept the Sylva hits well
scattered and was never in trouble
throughout the game.
Manager Paul Warren has an
nounced. that the Sylva club will
play Franklin Sunday afternoon
on the Mark Watson field at 3
o'clock. Sylva defeated them 19-0
at Franklin but they are better or

entertainment please make .your
donation to the Sports Editor of
The Sylva Herald, making check

MY MOTHER
By F. G. BROWN
Where the mountains slope to the
Westward
And their purple chalices held
The new-made wine of the sunset?
Crimson and amber and -gold.
There in the open doorway
Of our mountain chalet,
With the elm boughs overhead
And the plentiful table spread
She so often stood to welcome my
? coming,
Watching my upward climb,
In every kind of weather that
brought me?
Oh! many and many a time.
Now, again is her doorway opened
-A-tH hf*r hnnvunly ho?** 'g gam
ished and sweet
But she silently waits my coming
And I'll enter with silent feet.
Just a little within she is waiting
Not where she met me before,
But over the pleasant- threshold
She is only to cross once more.
The smile on her face is quiet,
And a silence is on her breast.
Her hands are folded together
And the word on her lips is
"Rest."
And yet it looks like a welcome,
For her earthly, work is done.
All things are' seemingly ready,
For her summer is just begun.
It is I, who may not cross over
Only with a song and a prayer,
A little way into the glory
I may reach ,us I leave her there.
Yet I cannot thinly of her idle,
She must be a home-maker still:
God giveth that work to the Angels,
Wl\o so well the task fulfill.
And somewhere yet in the hill-tops
Of thre country that has no pain,
She wjil be watching in her beau
titul doorway,
/To bid me a welcome home
again.
