Guests included: Peggy Ann Painter, Peggy Lee Price, Peggy Jo Sutton, Mrs. Tom Clayton, Blickadee Parris, Doris Bowman, of Hickory, Jean Cogdill, and Mrs. George Painter. * * . * Venoy Reed Honored On Birthday Venoy Reed was honored at a birthday supper Wednesday eve ning when his wife entertained a few friends at their home. The decorated birthday cake was served with ice cream at the con clusion of the delicious supper. Following supper games were played by the group. Mrs. Mary Cowan and her son, Frank Cowan, left Saturday for Greensboro, where they .attended the graduation of her daughter, M iss Anne Cowan, from Greens ^boro College. He served as editor-in-chief of the school paper, The Ridgerunner, and as vue president of the senior class. As valedictorian, he was awarded a year's >ubsc/iption to the Reader's Digest by the publishers of the magazine. Margaret Worley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Worley, was salutatorian of the class. Both students have been of outstanding ser vice to the school as well as maintaining the top scholastic records of the senior class of thirty-three members. with Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Alli son. Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Massie and little daughter, Patsy, of Ironton, Ohio, were here for the week end vi&ning Mrs. Massie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Patterson. They were accompanied here by Mr. Massie's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Massie. Capt. Sam C. Allison, who has been visiting his mother, Mrs. Cary Allison, for the past two weeks, left yesterday from Fort Benning to fly back to his army post in Porto Rico. Mrs. T. C. Wilbum returned to her home in Knoxville, Tenn., Monday after a few days visit with her sister, Miss Florence Wilkes. Mrs. Hugh Hyatt has been visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Albson and has just left to go to Bryson City. Mr. and Mrs. Burt L. Boland and daughter of Hickory have been vis iting Mr. Boland's s'ister and her husband. Mr. and Mrs.. Joe L. Sut ton. Mr. and Mrs. Olin Reed and smull daughter of Kinstun spent the week-end with Mr. Reed's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Parker. Mr. and Mrs. Whit D^vis and daughter, Nancy, of Biltmore spent last week-end with home folk. Mrs. Emily Wheeler, who has been making her home here with her daughter, Mrs. Olive Wilson, left Wednesday for an indefinite stay w^th relatives in Appleton. Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Allison will I leave Saturday for Raleigh to at | tend the graduation exercises of State cohege where their son, Bob by, is a member of the graduating class. Mr. A. O. Allison and Mrs. Walter Jones plan to accompany them to Raleigh to attend the ex ercises. Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown. They left Monday for Knoxville where they will visit her relatives before returning to Cincinnati. Miss Frances Bryson has return ed to her home after spending sev eral days with Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Hood in Goldsboro. Miss Dorothy Hennessee return ed to her home Saturday from Ral eigh, where she had attended Meredith College, and will be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hennessee, for the summer. Paul Kirk and two sons, Lloyd and William, Homer Davis, Ca mille Smith and Gail Webber spent Wednesday in Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Hardy are spending a few days in Chapel Hill, where they have gone for Mr. Hardy to attend a pharmacists' convention. Bill Patterson of Chattanooga spent last week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Bryson and Miss Mary Cecil Bryson. Frank Henry and Herbie Cole of Trenton, Mich., spent a few days here with relatives. Having come down to bring trucks for Cogdill Motor Co. Mr. and Mrs. Lane Whitaktr and daughter, Doris, accompanied them home and spent last week with Mrs. Whitaker's sister, Mrs. Frank Hen ry, and family. Mrs. John Blackburn and two small daughters. Johnnie Ruth and Phyllis Ann, of Norton, have re turned home after spendinng a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milas Parker, of Sylva. Dr. Carl Killian returned Sun day from Hayesville where he spent a week's vacation with his father, Dr. P. P. Killian, and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Marion McDonald and son are spending a two weeks' vacation in Lamed, Kansas, with relatives. Mr. McDonald is coach at Western Carolina Teachers Col lege. Mrs. C. Z. Candler, Miss Mar garet Candler, Miss Nancy Ruth Allison, and John Gibson left yes terday to go to Oak Ridge, Tenn., where they will attend the gradua tion of Mrs. Candler's granddaugh ter,. Mr. Oscar Lovedahl of Cowarts is spending a week's vacation with his daughter, Mrs. Blair* -Ensley. and Mr. Ensley in Akron, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. John- Martin of Dillsboro are spending a week in Oak Ridge, Tenn. with their son, Troy Martin, and family. While at Oak Ridge they plan to visit other relati\ es in Chattanooga, Tenn. Miss Helen Sossamon is in Pen land this week attending a moun tain craft school in connection with her Home Demonstration* work. Miss Sossamon also attended a meeting of Home Demonstration agents in Spruce Pine, Monday. \ Mrs. Oris Holman spent last I week-end in Charlotte with her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. John Irwin. Mrs. H. R. Hastings and son, J Harry, will go to Grassy Branch the last of the week to visit rela tives. Mrs. Hastings will returp after the week-end visit but Har ry will remain for the greater part of the summer. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Mr. and Mrs. Neal Crawford of Asheville were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Parris. Mr and Mrs. Lloyd Smith and family of Thompson, Ga. spent a few days with Mrs. Smith's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Davis, her brother, Homer Davis, and her sister, Mrs. Paul Kirk. They re turned home Wednesday, but left Miss Camille Smith to spend three weeks with her relatives. t Frank M. Crawford returned Sunday from a business trip to Raleigh and Durham. Mrs. Wallace Coward, who had been employed in Tampa, Fla. since her discharge from the Wom an's Army Corps, is now making her home in Webster and has ac cepted a position as office nurse for Dr. R. W. Kirchberg. Mrs. W. G. Stallcup, librarian of Sylva Public Library, entered C. J. Harris Community Hospital Wednesday for a major operation. Until Mrs. Stallcup is able to re turn to the library she will be re placed there by Miss Jackie Shields. * Mr. and Mrs. J. M. White, who are located in the apartment of Mrs. John TC. Jones, spent the week-end with friends in Chatta nooga. Mr. White is manager of the accessories department of Kirk Davis Chevrolet company. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brown and son of Darrington, Wash., who ac companied the body of Frank L. | Brown here for burial, are remain ing for a visit with relatives here.
