lege, was guest speaker at the reg
ular monthly meeting of the Jun
ior Woman's club wheja it met last
Wednesday evening with Mrs.
Rudy Hardy. She used as her sub
ject "The Aims and Objectives of
a Woman's Club." She stressed
what members should put into a
club, what they could get out of a
club, and what benefits the com-,
munity could derive from a club.
She was introduced by Miss Agnes
Wilson, program chairman.
Miss Virginia Madison, presi
dent, was in the chair during the
business session. Fourteen mem
bers were present.
Mrs. Hardy served an ice course
to her guests.

Monthly Meeting
On Friday evening the Woman's
Society of Christian Service met
for its monthly meeting in Allison
building with Mrs. Harry Hastings,
president, presiding. Reports from
the various ^officers and commit
tee chairmen were given and otljer
routine matters. wrere discussed.
Mrs. Hastings gave the devo
tional and Mrs. J. H. Gillis had the
program, the subject, being "Chil
dren and the Law." She spoke on
the protection through law for
children in our own community
and made suggestions as to how
these legislative measures could
be brought about.

Honored On Birthdays
Mrs. O. E. Brookhyser invited
the T.E.L. class of Scott's Creek
Baptist church and a few intimate
friends and relatives to bring a
covered dish and meet at the home
of her mother, Mrs. R. A. Dill^, of
Beta on June 9 and help to cele
brate the birthday of both her
mother and Mrs. V. Hooper. It
was a surprise for her mother.
Miss Lucile Dills, another daugh
ter, who attends the University of
North Carolina, was home for the
occasion. At the noon hour a long
table was set up under the trees
near the spring, and dinner was
served picnic style after the bless
ing was asked.
The gifts were then opened by
both ladies, each receiving several
nice, useful gifts.
The day was pleasant'and the
group enjoyed the nice dinner and
the fellowship together. ?

ful packages. These were placed
around the central arrangement of

swan, with sprays of fern extend
ing frpm each end.

Night At Balsam Hotel

of other guests at a dinner meeting
at Balsam Springs Hotel. The
tables where the four course din
ner was served were beautifully
decorated* with arrangements of

tain fern.
An evening of fun and good fel
lowship was enjoyed by more than.
100 persons. H. W. Sanders, dis
trict governor elect, and Mrs. San
ders of Black Mountain were spe
cial guests.
Jennings A. Brygon was recog
nized as the editor of" the Bulle
tin for the past year. The club was
presented a silver Cup for having
the best bulletin in the district

COLLINS-MORGAN WEDDING ANNOUNCED
Miss Virginia Collins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. .Collins
of Gay, and J. D. Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Zollie Morgan of Sylva,
were married Sunday. May 4, in a quiet ceremony at Clayton, Ga.
The bride wore for her wedding a two piece blue suit with black
accessories and a corsage of white gardenias.
Mrs. Morgan graduated from Webster high school in the class of '45.
Mr. Morgan attended Sylva high school. He served 3 years with
the U. S. Navy in the Pacific/theatre, reeciving an honorable discharge
in February 1946. He is now a member of the Smoky Mountain base
ball, team.
Mr. and Mrs. Morgan will reside in Sylva.

W. H. Link Are Wed
Announcement has been made of
the marriage of Mrs. Carrie S.
Bryson of Cullowhee to Mr. W. H.
Link of Aspermont, Texas. The
wedding was solemnized Monday,
June 9, in the parlor of the First
Baptist church of Childres, Texas
with the Rev. A. L. Heath using
the double ring ceremony.
Immediately after the wedding
the couple left by motor for a short
trip through northern Texas.
Mrs. Link is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Bumgarner of Syl
va, and for the past three years has
been dietitian at Western Carolina
Teachers college.
Mr. Link, a native Texan, is a
