Wilson?Davis Wedding
Party Feted After
Rehearsal
Following the wedding rehearsal;
on Thursday evening, the aunts'
and cousins of the bride-elect, j
Miss Rebecca Ann Wilson, enter-'
tained at the home of Dr. and Mrs J
D. D. Hooper' with a buffet sup-1
per as a courtesy for the Wilson- j
Davis wedding party and out-of
town guests.
The entire lower floor, thrown
together for the occasion, was dec- i
orated with a profusion of cutj
summer flowers.
In the dining room a color
scheme of green and white was'
carried out. The table had'* for
a centerpiece a large crystal swan,
holding an arrangement of white
gladioli, shasta daisies, Queen's
Anne lace and dahlias. At either
end were candelabra holding
lighted white tapers.
Following the buffet supper, the
table was arranged for the des
sert course. Mrs. T. O. Wilson,
mother of the bride-elect, poured
coffee and Mrs.x Thomas Davis,
mother of the bridegroom-elect,
served individual cakes, decorated
in white and green.
Later in the evening the young
er members of the group had a
song-fest of love songs, accom
panied at the piano by Mrs. Grover
Wilkes.
About 60 persons, including be
sides the wedding party and out
of-town guests, the members of
the families of both the bride and
bridegroom elects, attended the
affair.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Morris of
Newport, Washington, are spend
ing a few weeks with his mother,
Mrs. M. H. Morris, and brother,
John H. Morris, and family.
Wesleyan Guild Met
With Miss Barnett
On Monday evening the Wes
leyan Service Guild met with Miss
Martha Barnett at her home in
the J. H. Long apartment. The
president, Mrs. Gudger Fortner,
presided and Mrs. T. C. Wilson
opened the meeting with the de
votional.
A buffet supper was served to
the members, after which an im
portant business session was held.
The society voted to make a sub
stantial donation to the new home
economics room at Sylva High
school. This money will be used
to buy needed equipment.
Mrs. George Conrad was in charge
of the program and was assisted
by Miss Lucile Wilson and Mrs.
J. H. Wikon. The subject dis
cussed was various homes for
children in different partss of the
country that are maintained, by
the Woman's Division of Chris
tian Service of the Methodist
church.
Twelve members were present.

Mrs. Painter Hostess To
Gay Nell Murray Circle
Mrs. George Painter was hostess
for the August meeting of the Gay
Nell Murray circle of the Baptist
church at her home on Monday
evening. The Vice-president, Mrs.
Carl Buchanan, presided over tke
business hour."
Mrs. Howard Ball was in charge
of the program. She presented
Mrs. W. T. Brown, guest from the
Ruby Daniel circle, who gave an
interesting ^program on China.
Mrs. Painter served a sweet
course to the fourteen members
present.

Wed to Robert R. Mills
Mr. and Mrs. Houston Blanton of
Sylva have announced the mar
riage of their daughter, Georgie
Blanton, to Robert R. Mills, son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Mills of
Sylva.
The wedding took place Wed
nesday, July 23, at the parsonage
of the Scotts Creek Baptist church.
The Rev. B. S. Hensley officiated
at the ceremony.
For the ceremony the bride wore
a navy blue dress with white ac
cessories.
Both the bride and groom are
graduates of Sylva Central
high school. Mr. Mills is - now
employed by Belk's department
store in Waynesville.
After the wedding Mr. and Mrs.
Mills were entertained witlh a
bridal supper at the home of the
bride's parents.
The couple will reside in
Waynesville.

The bride chose for her wedding
a street length white crepe dress
with black accessories.
Mrs. Childers is a graduate of
Sylva high school in the class of
'47 and attended Western Teach
ers Colleger- She expects to re
sume her studies at McKinsey
Business college at Chattanooga,
Tenn.
The couple will make their
home at Chattanooga.

Carrie Rhodes Circle
Holds Annual Picnic
The Carrie Rhodes circle of the
Methodist church had its annual
picnic at the rome of Mrs. Alberta
Monteith last Monday night. Eigh
teen were present for the picnic.
The entire meeting was given
over to a social meeting and no
business was discussed.

Little Alice McGuire
Alice McGuire was honored on
her seventh birthday last Satur
day afternoon at her home by her
mother, Dr. Patsy McGuire. Fif
j teen of the neighborhood children
were present for the occasion.'
The children enjoyed playing
games and then were served de
licious refreshments by Dr. Mc
Guire.

Lynda Henry Saturday
Lynda Henry was honerd on her
sixth birthday anniversary at her
home on College Hill last Satur
day afternoon by her mother, Mrs.
Fred J. Henry. The children play
ed games during the afternoon and
prizes for winners were awarded
to Joan Wilson, Gail Painter,
Kathrine Hair, and George E.
Brookhyser.
When the children were seated
at the table for refreshments, they
all sang Happy Birthday and a
birthday cake with six candles was
presented to Lynda by her aunt,
Mrs. Hay Cogdill. A color^spheme
of pastel, yellow, green, and pink
was carried out in the refresh
ments. Individual cakes, a yellow
and green nut cup, lemonade, and
ice cream .were served to each
guest. Party favors were also on
each plate.

Jerry Karp Has 7th
Birthday Celebration
Jerry Karp was honored by his I
mother at a birthday party last
Thursday, July 31, on his seventh;
birthday anniversary.
For the table centerpiece Mrs.|
Karp had arranged a large birth-,
day cake decorated with "Happy1
Birthday to Jerry" and seven pink
candles. Cupcakes to match the
birthday cake, ice cream, candy,!
salted peanuts, potato chips, and
Coca-Colas were served to the
guests. Balls were given to each
one as a souvenir.
Games were played during the
afternoon and prizes were given
to Edward Lee Jones, Pete Hoop
er, and Lynda Stovall.
