Society and Personal Miss Helen Sossamon Given Pranuptial Party Miss Helen Sossamon, bride elect of Elmer Neill, was honored at a miscellaneous shower on the evening of October 2nd at the home of Dr. Patsy McGuire with Mrs. Pearle Bryson and Dr. Nor acella Wilson as joint hostesses. Bingo was played and as each person bingoed she presented Miss Sossamon with the gift she had brought for the shower; for the person who bingoed a second time there were extra gifts from the hostesses. Each guest present bin goed at some time during the evening. Following the games the hos tesses served an ice cream course. The honor guest's ice was frozen in the form of a bride and groom. The other ices were molded in the shapes of lovebirds, wedding bells, and wedding slippers. The cakes had the initials of the bride and bride-groom elects iced on them, carrying out the color scheme of yellow and blue. Miss Sossamon was also given gifts at several of the home dem onstration club meetings. The Bal sam club had special refreshments and gave her a gift. Jones, the president, Mrs. Raymond Stovall, conducting the business session. Mrs. Frank P. Crawford brought the devotional and Mrs. Dick Wil son, program chairman, presented N. R. Beacham, who spoke on "The Gospel for Our Generation." Mrs. Dennis Bark^ley was in charge of the recreation period. Mrs. W. H. Crawford and Dr. Pat sy McGuire won the prizes in the two contests. Mrs. Jones served a sweet course. * * * Twentieth Century Club Meets With Mrs. Tompkins On Thursday afternoon of last week Mrs. Dan Tompkins was hostess for the October meeting of the Twentieth Century club. The president, Mrs. R. U. Sutton, con ducted the business session. Mrs. Tompkins then presented N. R. Beacham, band director at Sylva High school, who spoke on the band. He told of how a child is developed educationally, cultur ally, ^nd physically through the band activities. He also explain ed each instrument, its construc tion, its tone, and its place in the band. Four boys beloning to the band then played several numbers in cluding America, the Beautiful, Whispering Hope, and others. Mrs. Tompkins served delicibus refreshments during the social hour. * * * Charlotte Terrell Has Birthday Party On Wednesday, October 1, Charlotte Anne Terrell celebrated her third birthday anniversary by inviting a group of friends to a party at her home in Addie. The guests arrived at 2|:30 o'clock and played games for an hour before Mr. Terrell served birthday cake, ice cream and mints. Then Char lotte opened the many gifts she had received. Gaynelle Murray Circle Has Regular Meet The Gaynelle Murray Circle met for its regular monthly meet ing on Monday evening with Mrs. Roscoe Poteet with 18 members present. Mrs. Poteet served a sweet course to her guests. * * * Maureen Cope Celebrates Fourth Birthday Mrs. Grayson Cope entertained at her home Saturday afternoon, honoring her daughter, Maureen, on her fourth birthday anniver sary. Several games were played on the lawn. Two contests were held with Kenneth Cope winning both prizes. Mrs. Cope then invited the little guests into the dinningroom. They formed a line and marched into the diningroom singing "Hap py Birthday to , Maureen". The table, covered with a lace cloth, had the birthday cake for a center piece. The children were served icecream, cup cakes, lemonade and peanuts. The young folks then went in to the livingroom to see Maureen open her gifts. It is urged that each church in the association send representatives from their local unions to this meeting. * * * Sylva Library To Be Open On Saturday Mrs. Mae Stallcup, librarian, states that for a few weeks the library will be open on Saturday afternoon from 12.30 to 4:30 stead of on Monday as has been in the past. This is being tried to see if more people will be served by this arrangement. E. Buckner and Mrs. YV. H. Cr: wford, present. After a short business session, Leah Sutton, Patsy Buckner, and Gail Webber had the pragram. They told of different phases of the life at Camp Toccoa, summer camp for Camp Fire girls. The meeting will be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, the next meeting to be with Lipda Moody. Mrs. Kirchberg served the group cookies and Coca-Colas. Mrs. Fred Edwards of Bluefield, Va. spent the week-end with her brothers, Walter and Garland Jones, in Sylva and her sister, Mrs. G. T. Hampton, at Cullowhee. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kirk were in Atlanta Saturday to attend the wedcjing of Dr. J. E. Smith of Fitzgerald, Ga. and Miss Anne Roberts of Dalton. Ga. They also attended the wedding breakfast at the Atlanta-Biltmore Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. David Flintom and a friend, Mrs. Williams of Charles ton, S.
