No. Funeral Services For Mrs. Laura Reid Morgan Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Reid Morgan, 76, of Murphy were ? held February 7 at 3:00 o'clock in ? the Methodist church in that city. Burial was in the Old Methodist cemetery. She was a native of Macon coun ty, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Reid, of Frank lin. She was a member of the Wa tauga Methodist church in Macon , county. Prior to moving to Mur- j phy seven years ago she lived for sometime in Jackson county. Surviving are three daughters; , Mrs. A. L. Shepard, of Murphy; Mrs. D. F. Cooper, of Athens, Tenn.; and Mrs. R. L. Warren, of Sylva; one son, C. R. Morgan, of Murphy; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Future Farmers To PuMiah Paper The Cullowhee Chapter of the Future Farmers of America voted at their recent meeting to publish a school paper. The first issue will probably be completed within two weekfe. Darrell Tilley, President of the organization, stated that a school paper would add much to each grade and department in the school since it is expected that each grade and organization will contribute news items pertaining to their par ticular* part of the school. In setting up the organization Tilley appointed the following boys to work under his supervision; O. V. Cagle, Editor-in-chief, J. M. Taylor, Associate Editor, Bob by Gunnels, Sports editor, James Wike, Cartoonist, Wayne Green, j Advertising Manager, Doyle Tay : lor. Photographer, and Grady Ward, Chief Reporter. The paper which will be pub lished bi-weekly is to be named by the students. The student pre , senting the most appropriate name will be given a prize. To finance the project ads will be sold to local business firms, and in addition ten cents will be charg ed p?r* I Men Of Presbyterian Church Organize [ A number of men ol the Sylva Presbyterian church met at the home of Mr and Mrs. J. A. Gray on last Friday evening for their first monthly dinner meeting and for the purpose of forming a Men's organization. The dinner, prepared by Mrs. Gray and members of the Woman's Auxiliary, was served at 7:00 o'clock with 12 men present. Rev. H. E. McClure, executive secretary of the Home Mission Board of the Asheville Presbytery and the Rev. Malcom Williamson, pastor of the Waynesville Presby terian church, were special guests and speakers for the occasion. ? Following the dinner the group retired to the living room where I Mr. McClure talked on the work of the Sylva church, its past pro gress, and plans for future work. He told of the acquistion of a lot in Sylva for the proposed new church, and presented the treasur- I I er of the church with a check for $1,026.00 the proceeds of a War Bond, gift of an out-of-town friend of the church, which is being ap- | plied on the purchase price of the lot. _ | Mr. Williamson then talked to the men on the necessity of com plete cooperation of all groups in j the work of the church, and the community in all their activities. Rev. W. H. Wakefield, pastor of the local church then took charge as acting chairman in organizing the men. Jackson Dunn was then elected permanent chairman, J. A. Gray vice chairman and E. W. Wilson secretary and treasurer. A program committee was elected with N. R. Beacham, chairman. C. C. Pettit and Rev. W. H. Wake field. The group will meet the first Friday evening of each month, with the March meeting at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Wakefield. Funeral Services For Mrs. Rebecca Davis Funeral services were held at the Long Branch Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock for Mrs. Rebecca Bradshaw^avis,. who passed away following a long illness. Rev. Dave Wiggins and Rev. George Snyder were the officiat ing ministers. Mrs. Davis was the widow of the late George Davis of Dillsboro. Pallbearers were Jarrett Davis,. Jud Robinson, Fred Robinson, Her shel Ashe, Dillard Cope, Frank Russell, and Dallas Davis. Flower bearers were Mrs. Mar tha Russell, Mrs. Ollie Ashe, Mrs. Grace Cope, Mrs. Ruth Trull, and Miss Lois Davis. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Mary Davis of Dillsboro and Mrs. Clinton Bryant of Sylva; two grandchildren, George Bryant and Mrs. G. 3.
