Marshall Plan Talk i INDUSTRIALIST Lewis H. Brown told the Senate Foreign Relations Com mittee in Washington that the Mar shal) Plan would fail unless the American. British and French zones of Western Germany are integrated. He urged that the aid program be administered by a separate agency and headed by a person of cabinet rank. (International Soundphoto) Feb. 28 Dead Line For Filing Farm Reports Mr. D. C. Higd on, chairman of the Jackson county committee, states that an extension of time for the filing of Performance Reports un der the Agricultural Conservation Program has been received. In stead of February 15 as a closing date, farmers in the county now have until February 28 in which to file a report on the practices carried out last year. Only about 50 percent of the farmers in the county have Tiled Performance Re ports to date, whereas Mr. Higdon states that probably 2000 farmers have participated in the 1947 Pro gram either by carrying out some of the practices or through the use of conservation materials. This extension of time will give these farmers a chance to come to trie county office and complete their report on 1947 practices. Elon Takes Two From Catamounts Elon's Christians won two vital North State conference games from Tuck McConnell's Western Caro lina Catamounts last Friday and Saturday nights at Burlington, Fri day by a 44-42 score in a game that went into an extra period and Saturday by a 46-37 count. In the rist game the Catamounts held a 21-17 lead at halftime and led on up until there was eight seconds to go when Elon's Smith hit a field goal that tied the game at 38-38. In the over time period the Christians managed to think three goals to the Catamounts two for a two-point victory. In the second game the Chris tians were ahead at halftime 21-17 and sparked by Ganes with 20 points came out on the long end of a 46-37 score. Bob McGinn was high for the Catamounts for both nights with 13 the first and 15 second. The lineuos: First Game? The Cats have enjoyed a successful season this year under the tutorship of their new coach, Tuck McConnell. They started off with six straight wins before Maryville broke their string at Maryville with a 44-39 defeat. The Catamounts will be out to win this game for revenge and also t oclose out their season with victory. After the Maryville game the only other game the Cats will play will be in the North State confer ence tournament at Elkin. The Sylva Hurricanes came through at Murphy and won the class "A" tournament champion ship. Everybody was glad to see them do that because of the poor football season they suffered this year. Oddities: In the two games be tween the Cullowhee Catamounts and the Elon Christians last week both halftime scores were the same. In the first game the Cats led at the half by a 21-17 count, and in the second game Elon was out front at the intermission by a 21 17 score. Last year at the end of the reg ular season th^Catamount, under the leadership of Marion MacDon ald had won 13 games and lost 13 games. They had scored 1311 points against 1311 for their opponents.
