Q?I have a discharge from the:
draft of World War I. May I con-1
sider myself a veteran?
A?For the purposes of laws ad
ministered by Veterans Adminis
tration in order to be classified as
a veteran, you must have had
active military service during a
time of war. A discharge draftee
is not considered to have had such
service.
Q?I received a pension as a
Spanish-American War veteran's
widow. I remarried and my second
husband is now dead. Am I eligible
for a pension again as a widow of
the Spanish-American War veter
an?
A?Yes, if you meet the other
requirements of the law and regu
lations.
Q?May I receive death bene
fits for my husband and my son?
A?Yes, if both were veterans
and ^ou are otherwise eligible.
Q?What proof is required to
obtain death compensation or pen
sion for an illegitimate child?
A?Acknowledgement in writing,
signed by the veteran, or evidence
showing he has been judicially or
dered or decreed to contribute to
the child's support or has been,
prior to his pleath, judicially de
creed to be the father of such
child, or evidence satisfactory to
the Administration of Veterans Af
fairs that the veteran is the father

STATE COLLEGE HINTS;
TO FARM HOMEMAKERi
(By Ruth Current)
State Home Demonstration Agent
Some of the "picking up" jobs
around the house are difficult, even
dangerous if done by hand.
cause burns and cuts are some of
the most frequent home accidents
suffered by women, more care
should be taken with hot and sharp
articles. For safer and easier
pick.-ups, home management spe
cialists suggest:
Tongs to pick up hot arti
cles at the stove, outdoor fireplace
or sink. Use tongs to lift jars
from hot water in canning, large
vegetables from cooking water,
i baked potatoes from the oven, hot
| grates or lids from the fife, silver
ware from hot rinse water.
Magnet to pick up pins and
needles in home dressmaking.
Damp cotton to pick up fine
particles of broken glass.
A "slide-along" clothespin bag
made of heavy material and sewed
on a coathanger will help to avoid
stooping for clothespins. Hang
the bag of clothespins on the line,
slide it along as the clothes are
(on the line, and one of washday's
minor irritations will be over.
The substitution of a wet dish
cloth for a folder is very undesir
able when one is canning; the heat
from a hot jar will steam through
a wet cloth instantly and may cause
serious burns. Instead use a dry
cloth or pot holder.
When in trouble, instead of
looking for some one to help you,
do something for others.

of such child.
Q?Is it necessary that a child
in custody of the widow, file
separate claim for compensation'
A?No.
