VOTE FOR
I "
FRANK H. BROWN, JR.
FOR THE
STATE HOUSE
O?
Representatives
DEMOCRATIC
PRIMARY
? _ MAY 29 .
SCHOOLS:
1 will advocate and support legislation for the
State of North Carolina to participate in a State
wide school building program. I am in favor of
a $2400 minimum salary schedule for teachers and
for teachers to receive the same vacation and
sick leave benefits as to all Qther State employees.
ROADS:
Farm-to-market roads are the chief interest of
the farmers of Jackson County. I will advocate
more and more gravel roads for Jackson County
and less emphasis on super highways. I will also
advocate and support legislation to reduce the cost
of truckers license plates eng^J^d in local hauling.
HEALTH :
I favor a State-wide health program which would
benefit every man, woman and child in North Car
olina.

Legion Auxiliary Will
Obserre Poppy Day May 29
The American Legion Auxiliary
will observe Poppy Day by selling
poppies on the streets of Sylva and
in the county on Saturday, May 29.
Poppy Day has a three-fold signi
fcance. They are made by hospi
talized veterans who depend on thiy
to make their spending money. The
money derived from the sale of
the poppies is used to aid veter
ans in hospitals who need help or
to furnish aid to families of vet
erans who need it.
Through the fund secured last
year the local auxiliary has been
able to give substantial aid to one
family in the county. They also
have three patients at Oteen and
two at Moore General to whom
they send small checks each month.
During the year these veterans are
remembered in a bigger way at
different times.
The auxiliary appreciates the
splendid support given to former
Poppy Day sales and hope for the
same this year.
