NOTICE
OF
Holiday Closing
Sunday, May 30, 1948
Memorial Day Being a legal Holiday,
The Jackson County Bank will be closed Monday,
/
May 31st.
THE JACKSON COUNTY BANK
To the Voters of
Jackson County:
It's Your Duty To Vote
And INow is the time
If a Farmer is the man who feeds us
all, then why not elect a Farmer for
Governor to lead us? W. KERR SCOTT
is the first Progressive Farmer we have
run for Governor since Ellas Carr, who
office in 1893, just 55 years ago.
KERR SCOTT has done more for the
farmer and consumer than any one man
has ever done in the History of North
Carolina. He has saved you MIL
LIONS of DOLLARS on PURE FOOD,
FEEDS AND SEEDS AND THE FER
TILIZER YOU USE.
In 1931 at Salisbury, N. C., he fought
for the FARMERS INTEREST so they
could have better rural homes and
electrification, one of the greatest bles
sings the farmer has ever gotten. He
LOANED YOUR SURPLUS MONEY
AND GOT INTEREST TO REDUCE
TAXES. He voted for and supported
every movement for BETTER
SCHOOLS.
He quit his job with the State and
runs for Governor at his own expense
to save the TAXPAYER'S MONEY.
He is fighting for every one's interest
harder than anyone since George
Washington and your forefathers who
fought hungry, ragged, barefooted and
said, "Give Us Liberty or Give Us
Death." Don't let their sacrifice be in
vain.
Don't give your son's and daughter's
lives on land and sea, or billions and
billions of dollars in our tax money to
set Europe free, and then be so simple
as to vote for a man that has not got
sense enough to run his own business,
much less run your business for you.
Any man who won't loan your sur
plus money to your own government,
the safest, soundest investment in the
world today and get the interest on
$170,000,000 to help reduce our taxes
is not fit for Governor of North Caro
lina.
Any man who seeks an office at the
taxpayers expense, its your duty to
put him out of office.
Any man that says he is for better
schools and won't register and vote in
his own precinct, do you believe he is
for it? I don't. It's not what we can
make that does us the most good it's
what we can save that counts the most.
There are too many white collared
office seekers and highway road hands
that will vote for the first one that
offers them an easy job. These men
seldom if ever do anything good for
themselves, much less the country.
We need progressive men and wom
en who can produce more and better
things at less cost and reduce our taxes
like Kerr Scott.
There are too many men and women
who are all the time looking for a job.
They have not got any sense. If they
had any sense, they could make a job
of their own. I am only a mountain
boy with a 4th readers education.
When I need money I make my own
job. I have sat on the bull pen in Mur
phy, N. C., and whittled on a soft pine
board and made for a single day's work
$1750.00 and often made $1,000.00 per
week.. If you don't believe me, ask
Mr. L. E. Bayless, my old banker, he
knows. He still lives in Murphy.
. I am not wanting a job, I seek no
political pull.
I pay for advertisements to help my
friends, who have helped me in the
past, little fellows who cannot help
themselves. Mountain Boys.
. Think long and hard then vote for a
man that has and can and will do the
most for us all. W. KERR SCOTT, the
Farmer's Eriend.
Yours sincerely,
H. R. McINTOSH, Hayesville, N. C.
Outlook For Poultry
Now More Favorable
There is money in poultry, par
ticularly for the efficient producer,
says C. B. Ratchford, in charge of
farm management at State College.
The outlook for poultry has be
come more favorable since the first
of the year, he said, adding that
demand is*expected to remain high.
Since the number of layers is low
er, an increase in price is antici
pated.
According to the Bureau of Agri
cultural Economics, farjners re
ceived 42.6 cents per dozerf for
th?ir eggs in mid-March. This
figure is 2.5 cents more than in
March, 1947, and the highest price
.on record for the month.
^Fhe egg-feed ratio has been un
favorable, but if farmers plant the
acreage of feed grains they intend
to and yield is normal, the ratio
should improve in the half of 1948,
the farm management specialist
believes.
However, while the outlook is
good for efficient poultrymen, in
efficient producers will probably
lose money, predicts Mr. Ratch
ford, adding that despite possible
lower feed costs poultrymen should
continue to strive for efficiency in
production.
. The specialist lists these steps as
ways of increasing efficiency: Get,
better bred chicks; cull hard; use
grazing as much as possible for
pullets, to reduce feed costs and
provide healthier hens; feed bal
anced rations; avoid wasting feed;
get rid of all rats; add labor-sav-,
ing conveniences and arrange
buildings to save steps.
