For The Women Society Ne and Clab Activities - Phone 110 Svlva Woman's Club Has Annual Party ; The Sylva Woman's club held its annual party when they en-' tertained their husbands ar.d oth-. er friends at a dinner party at Sunset Farms on Wednesday eve ning of last week. . When the guests arrived they found their places at small tables placed on the porch. Each table was centered with a small vase of summer flowers. Miss Hicks Wilson said a few wcrds of welcome to the visitors! and Mrs. Earl Padgett introduced' her guests, Dr. and Mrs. R. S.| Morgan and Miss Ronda Stimp son, who have recently come tc Sylva to make their home. Two ? former- members of the club, Mrs. Odell Bankhead of Chester, S. C , and Mrs. Keith Hinds, and Mr Hin^s of Cullowhee, were also guests fcr the occasion. Mrs. Bumgarner served a three course chicken dinner to the group. Following this an hour of con versation with both old and new friends was enjoyed. Gay Community Club Has Supper Meeting Mrs. Inez Buchanan, member of the Gay Community club, was a lucky visitor to the Frozen Fcod Fac^s, Frozen Food Demonstration, given in the Home Economics building of Sylva High School on Tuesday, July 13. She won the 3>/2 pound frozen beef steak which had been prepared for freezing during the demonstration. one gave a supper for the ciuu members using the steak for her meat. . Mrs. Lyle Buchanan ,the president, ' also helped plan the! menu and Mrs. Morrison Green and Mrs. Robert Buchanan helped to prepare the supper. Those enjoying the supper were Mrs. Lyle Buchanan, Mrs. Inez Buchanan, Mrs. Morrison Green Mrs. Robert Buchanan. Club Has Monthly Meeting The John's Creek Home Dem onstration club met July 14 at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Paul Swayngim for the regular monthly meeting. Due to the rainy day only 7 members were present. Three new member were taken in. The meeting was called to order by the president. The. curb mar ket and the* Chest X-Ray were dis cussed and all were urged to have the Chest X-Ray. Farm and Home week in Raleigh was another topic for discussion. The demonstration for the after noon was on salad combinations and was enjoyed by all. The hostess served delicious re freshments. With The Hospital Mrs* W. E. Campbell returned to her home Tuesday after having been ill at the C. J. Harris Com munity hospital. Mrs. Vernon Melton underwent an appendectomy at the local hos pital on last Saturday. She return ed home Tuesday. Mrs. Juanita Davis, who recently was an appectomy patient at the Harris Community hospital, re turned home Monday. Mrs. Ben Crisp of the Cope Cre^k community is seriously ill at the local hospital. Ga. on Saturday, July 17. The bride wore a blue dress with white accessories. E, Nowlin of Amigo, West Virginia, July v4th at. 2 p.m. in the Addie Baptist church. The pas tor, the Rev. Nando Stevens, con ducted the single ring ceremony. The church was decorated with cedar boughs .. and gladoili. A program? of - .wadding music was presented y Mlks Edtffe Lou Ter rell, pianist, and Mrs. Tom Clay ton, vocalist. "Salut d'Admour" by Elgar was played during the ceremony. ' \ ? The traditional wedding marches were used. Miss McClure was given in mar riage by her brother, Roy Mc Clure of Canton. She wore a navy blue suit with white accessories. She carried a white Bible topped with white rases and showered with satin streamers and sweet peas. Miss Ruby McClure, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a beige dress with black accessories and Carried a bouquet of sweetpeas and fern with satin' streamers. Junior Woman's Club Met With Miss Bryson Miss Dotsy Bryson was hostess at the home of her parents on last Wednesday evening for the regu lar monthly meeting of the Junior; Woman's club^Ten members and one guest, Mrs. Glynn Poteet, were present. Miss Virginia Madison, the pres ident, was in charge of the busi ness session, during which sever al important matters were discus sed, but were left open until next; month when a final vote will be taken. The program was omitted and a social hour enjoyed. The hostess served an ice course. Qualla H. D. Club Meets j With Mrs. Helen Cathey j The Qualla Home Demonstra tion club met at the home of Mrs. Helen Cathey with Mrs. Louise Edwards as joint hostess on Tues day, July 20, at 2 p.m. The meet ing was called to order by the pres ident, Mrs. Jlme Shelton, and rout-1 ine business was taken care of. Ten members were present. Plans were made for the annual picnic to be held Tuesday, August 17, at the home of Mrs. Faye Varner. The meeting was turned over to Miss Johnson, who gave an inter | esting discussion on salads. Leaf I lets containing recipes for salads I and dressings were given the mem | bers. The hostess served pineapple narshmallow salad, Ritz crackers cake, and iced tea. Charley McClure, cousin of the. bride, was best man. Ushers were! Jack McClure, brother of the bride, Kenneth and Bobby Ter rell, cousins of the bride, and Bob by Jones. The bride's mother wore a dress cf black and white with black ac cessories and a corsage of red car nations. Immediately after the ceremony a reception was held at the home of Mrs. Frank Terrell, aunt of the bride. The living room was deco rated with gladoili and Queen Anne lace. On the table, covered with a lace cloth, was the three tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and groom on one end and the punch bowl on the other. Mrs. Claude Bryson, aunt of the bride, cut the cake and Mrs. Clyde; Bryson, aunt of the bride, was at' the punch bowl. Mrs. Cicero Bry-' son and Miss Mae McClure, also aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Char ley McClure, cousin of the bride,! assisted in the serving. After the reception, the couple left for Amigo, West Virginia,! where they will reside. j Mrs. Nowlin is a graduate of Sylva High School. I Mr. Nowlin served four years j in the U. S.
