Mrs. Jones Hostess For
Eight and One Bridge Club

Eight and One Bridge club.
Two tables were arranged for
play when the guests arrived.
Adding of scores shewed Miss
Hicks Wilson to hold high score,
Mrs. C. H. Nicholson had second
high and Mrs. E, E. Tweed had
made low. They were given the
respective awards.
Mrs. Jones served a salad course.
Others playing were Mrs. Woody
Hampton, Mrs. W. T. Wise, Mrs
Johiv lienson. Mrs. C. E. Thomp
son and Miss Lucile Wilson.

The Post chapel at Ft. Custis,
Va. was the setting on Monday.
July 12. at ten o'clock in the morn
ing for the marriage cf Mrs. Cath
erine Davis Moore, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William D. Davis of
Sylva and Lt. Edwrrd John Brick
ette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Brickette of Blackwood, New Jer
sey. Chaplain Julius B. Gonia of
ficiated, the ceremony being per
formed before a background of
white flowers, palms and lighted
tapers.
Mrs. Adolph K. Berge played
the wedding music and Staff Sgt.
Lester J. King of Newport News,
Va. sang "I Love You Truly" and
"Because".
The bride, who was given in
marriage by Lt. Thomas Morris of
Newport News, wore cornflower
blue crepe, fashioned street length,
ballerina skirt, high neckline, short
bell sleeves and snug fitting bodice
with shirred peplum. She carried
a prayer book showered with a
white carnation spray and wore a
small off-the-face straw hat with
petal pink veiling. Her accessories
were white.
Miss Jean Davis, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor. She
wore a petal pink crepe dress,
street-length, fashioned with scal
loped neckline, mutton sleeves and
full skirt. Her hat^wfs^navy blue
taffetta, off-the-face-model with
high brim. Her accessories were
navy blue and her corsage was of
Rubyrim lillies
Lt. Henry J. Stein of Newport
iNews was best man, and the ushers

high score, Miss Nancy Allison re-'
ceived the prize for second high;
and Miss Lou Elsie Parker the one'
for low score.
Mrs. Barnwell was presented a
shower of gifts.
Others playing besides the prize
winners and Mrs. Barnwell were
Mrs. Rudy Hardy, Mrs. Clyde Rec
tor, Miss Rebecca Sue Cannon and
Miss Dot Tallent.

District Leader Is Guest
At Guild Meeting
Miss Margaret Wilson of Bryson
City, district director of the Wes
leyan Service Guild, was guest of
the local Guild when it met on
Monday evening at the home of its
president, Dr. Noracella Wilson.
The meeting was opened by a de- ,
votional led by Mrs. Nettie Shook
followed by a prayer by Rev. W.
Q. Grigg. Dr. Wilson presided over
the business session.
This finished, she presented Miss
Wilson, who spoke on "The Fun
damental? of the Guild", taking up
its pledge and four objectives and
discussing each fully. Much valu
able information was gained from
her talk. A question and answer
period followed.
The hostess, assisted by Miss
Lucile Wilson, served a sweet
course.

Carrie Rhodes Circle
Has Supper Meeting
The Carrie Rhodes Circle of the
Methodist church, being prevent-,
ed by the rain from having their
annual picnic as planned, had a
potluck supper, served buffet style,
at the home of Mrs; M. L. Snipes
on Monday evening. Nineteen
members were present and three
visitors, Mrs. Dave Calhoun, Mrs.
Carl Arnold and Mrs. J. L. Rae.
Two of the visitors, Mrs. Calhoun
and Mrs. Arnold, joined the circle
at this time.
' Following supper, Mrs. Raymon
were Capt. J. W. Kuykendall of j
Williamsburg. Va. and Lt. William1
L. Street of Newport News.
After a wedding trip to Black
wood, N. J., Lt. and Mrs. Brick-;
ette will make their home at 105;

for the regular meeting of her
bridge club at her home in Dills

play. At the conclusion of the

high score and Mrs. C. H. Nichol
son had made second high. Both
were given awards.

Honors The Gegans
On Friday evening Miss Lela
Moore Hall was hostess at an out
door supper at her home as a cour
tesy for Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gegan,;
who were visiting Mrs. Gegan'st
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Alii-1
son.
An enjoyable time was had by
the entire group joining in cook
ing and serving the supper picnic
style.
Then the group spent an hour or
two in conversation, reminiscing
over past times, enjoying the pre*=. j
ent and planning for the future j
when the crowd might all be to
gether again.

gree from George Peabody College.!
She has also done graduate work
at tiie University of North Caro
lina. She has taught for the past
four years in Cocoa and Fort
?Lauderdale, Fla.
Mr. Rowlson was educated at
Northwestern university and took
graduate courses at the University
of the Philippines and at Oxford
University. For three and a half
! years he served with the U. S.
army and spent some time in both
[ the South Pacific and the European
theaters of war. He is now sales
manager for the Southeastern dis
trict of the Sun Chemical Corpora
tion.

circle of the Sylva Baptist church
with eight members present. Mrs
Jesse" Buchanan was in charge of
the business part of the meeting.

program, the subject for this month
being "Baptist Work in South
America." She was assisted by

Mrs. Warren served chicken sal
ad, sandwiches, coffee and candied
fruit.
Stovall presided over a business
session. The program wa omitted
and a social hour enjoyed.

The Cashiers Home Demonstra
tion club met with Mrs. Charlie
j Passmore on Friday, July 27.
I The meeting was called to order
by the president and opened for
business discussion. Farm and
Home week in Raleigh and the
meetings at Cullowhee were dis
cussed.
Plans were made for the annual
' picnic which is to be held at Elyea's
Spring on Tuesday, August 24, at
6 o'clock.
The club voted to again order
the Christmas cards and Christmas
wrappings to sell for the benefit
of the Cashiers Health clinic.
Achievement Day was another
topic discussed.
The meeting was then turned
over to Miss JohriSttfrl who gave
an interesting discussion Oti salads.
The hostess served delicious re
freshment.
