Corbin, Jr. Miss Barbara Jo Cooke, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Lee Cooke of 38 Lakeview road, was married to John Franklin Corbin, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Corbin of Sylva, on Wednesday afternoon, September 1, at 4 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Garland R. Lackey, brother-in-law and sister i of the bride. The Rev. T. F. Deitz of Sylva of-1 liciated. The vows were spoken be-1 lore an improvised altar banked i with ferns interspersed with bas kets of gladiolus and chrysanthe-' mums. The candles were lighted j by Rebecca Abernathy of Win-1 ston-Salem, cousin of the bride.' The bride, who was given inj marriage by her brother, Edward X?ee Cooke, wore a gray gabardine suit with pink blouse and grey felt hat with an ostrich plume. She; carried a white prayer book to which was attached a purple throated arahid shoutered with i satin streamers and lilies of the! valley. Her ornament was a string of pearls, a gift of the groom. Mrs. Garland R. Lackey served as her sister's matron of honor. She wore a dark green crepe dress with pink beaver hat and carried an old-fashioned nosegay of mixed flowers. William Whitten of Clemson col lege served as best man. Immediately after the ceremony a reception was held. Those assist- j ing included Mrs. Frank F. Brown, j Mrs. Myron C. Peterson, Mrs. Ra-j McClure and Mrs. Wesley! Brown. The bride's mother wore a blue crepe dress with silver beads and a corsage of white glamelias, and the bridegroom's mother were wine ?repe with a corsage of red rose buds. After the ceremony the couple left by motor for a wedding trip. They will reside in Sylva. ? Mrs. Corbin attended Sylva high school and the Dell School of Med ical Technology. Mr. Corbin is a graduate of Sylva high school and served in the navy 'for two years. He later attended Clemson college, and Western Carolina Teachers college. C. Halcyon Club Has Annual Picnic The Halcyon Club held its an nual picnic September 1 at Cher okee. Townspeople who helped the club with their Bingo on the 4th of July and their recent barbe cue were the guests of the club. The picnic supper of fried chic ken, potato salad, slaw, and cake, was served .when the group as sembled on the little island in the Oconaiuftee river. * * * Mrs. Corbin Honors Son With Dinner At Her Home Mrs. J. F. Corbin was hostess at her home on Monday evening, at a stag dinner for her son, John Frank Corbin, who was married on Wednesday afternoon to Miss Barbara Jo Cooke of Asheville. Assisted by Mrs. Ray Cogdill, Mrs. Cerbin served dinner to the following: the honor guest, "Bud" Reed, Lewis Wilson, Jimmy Keen er, Raymond Nicholson, Charles Poteet, Wade Wilson, all of Sylva, and Billy Whitten of South Caro lina. Mrs. Fisher Has T.E.L. Class Meeting On Thursday morning, Septem ber 2, twelve members of the T. E.L. Class of Scott's Creek Bap tist church met at the home of Mrs. Howey Fisher for their monthly meeting. Covered dishes vv|re brought and a bountiful lunchefcn was served. Mrs. D. G. Payne and daughter, Miss Jean Payne, and Mr. Bill Miller, all of Atlanta, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Hinds and daughter, Irene, will leave Sat urday for Chapel Hill where Mr Hinds will continue work on his Doctorate at the University. He will be on leave of absence from Western Carolina Teachers col lege where he holds the position of professor of Mathematics. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Fricks had as their guests for the week end a brother of Mr. Fricks, S. S. Fricks, and his wife of Chattanoo ga, Tennessee; aLso a sister, Mrs Jerry Ellis, and Mr. Ellis of Ross ville, Ga. They returned to their hemes on Monday. Dr. and Mrs. D. M.
