Western Carolina Catamounts of
Cullowhee still rode the one-point
jinx Saturday as they dropped
their third one-point game of the
season, this time to the Carson
Newman Eagles 14-13. With the
loss the Cats closed their 1948
campaign with seven wins and
three defeats.
Despite the fact that the Cats
lost the game they played bruising
football from first to last
and outclassed the Eagles in every
respect but the scoring. By mak
ing 13 points the W stern Carc-i
olinians ran their total scor.e for J
the season to an even 200 points!
against 79 for their onposit on.

first half, the Eagles got a break
and scored. From his own 24

extra point for a 7-0 halftime
lead.
Carson-Newman kicked off to
start the last half. Paul Monroe
returned the kick from the goal
line to the 29 and a 15 yard penalty
and two .rushing plays which
netted 5 yards forced Catamount
Ralph McConnell to kick out of
bounds on the C-N 47. On the
the first play from* scrimmage
Claude Jennings cut through the
line, turned down the sideline and
went all the way?53 yards for
the second Carson - Newman
touchdown. Woolwine again
kicked the extra point which
proved to be game-winning.
A few plays later Hugh Con
stance intercepted a Carson-New
man pass on the W. C. 43 end re
turned it 42 yards to the 15. Cecil
Roberts went off tackle for 13
yards then passed to Bob Tate

Rogers and Hamilton slashed at

ball resting on the eight. Only a

ed and Frank Hardin went in to
attempt a field goal. The game

be the most prevalent.
Saturday night at Newberry,
Cecil Lloyd received a fracture on
his jawbone that marked the third
