Joe Royals, the colored boy convicted of throwiug stones at houses on Person street, and sent to jail for 30 days, has been hired out to Mrs. Fisher. Mrs. W. B. Overby, o Mt. Airy, has arrived in, the city, and will make this her 1 future home, occupying: the old Qverby homestead in Bedbone. A special train passed through this city this morning en rmite to Clinton with Gen eral Manager Fry on board. He is a wit ness in the Express robbery case. Hector Ray, the negro charged with assault with a deadly weapon, was taken before Squire Overby yesterday, and gave a justified bond for his appearance for trial on Feb. 31st. The $100,000,000 bond offer received, yesterday, bids aggregating $568,269,850. it is estimated that the price will average 110i. So much for the World's breaking up the secret way of selling bonds which the President engaged in last year, through his former law partner. Then the gov ernment's credit was better than now (be caase there was no war scare,) and yet the President sold to the syndicate at 104$. j A Model Farm In Fayette fill . Mr. W. H. PoweJl, one of our city al dertnen, has a model farm consisting of about 20 acres near Council Hall in Camp bellton. Election of County Commissioners. The County Commissioners are to be elected this year. Three will be elected by the people and two appointed by 'a Judge upon a petition from one hundred electors of the county. that three are not sufficient to administer the affairs of the county. We have five now. The Judge in appoint ing the two commissioners is required by law to appoint men of the opposite politi cal faith from the majority elected. Thus if two democrats are elected and one pop ulist, he will have to appoint two popu lists, giving the populists the majority, or vice versa as the case may be. 8hould be Revived.
