For Eegister of Deedi. Correspondence of the Observer. Among the many names mentioned for Register of Deeds the most competent man should be selected, provided there is no popular demand for any other candi date and no serious objection to the man who is recognized as the most competent. All the gentlemen whose names have been mentioned could fill the office with satisfaction to the public, and they are all men of character; but it seems to the writer that none of the men mentioned has had a business experience which would better fit him for the duties of that office than Mr. H. I. McDuffie. It will be no mistake to nominate him. And while it is for the people to say who shall be the nominee, his name is respectfully sug gested to the people as a man who by his business qualifications and by his long and earnest work for party principles in the past, is entitled to have his claims earnestly considered when his name comes before the convention. Cross Creek. Harnett Democratic Convention. Editor of Observer: The HarnetOCounty Democratic Con vention was held on 31st inst. Geo. K. Grantham was chairman, and H. T. Spears and Editor Pitman, of the Dunn Union, were secretaries. The following ticket was nominated: For the House John M. Hodges. Sheriff James Lanier. Register of Deeds Henry T. Spears. Treasurer Wm, M. Sexton. Surveyor D. E. Green. Coroner Dr. F. T. Moore. CommissionersColin McArtan, E. F. Young and Henry Morrison. The attendance was unusually large and there was much enthusiasm. The ticket is as strong as could be made in the eounty. The general verdict is the convention made no mistake. Hon. Frank Thompson, candidate for Congress, and Henry J. Hioes, of Samp son, one of our candidates for the Senate, were present and addressed the conven tion. The people were much pleased with their speeches. Col. W. E. Mnrchison, of Jorfesboro, (one of Harnett's "dispersed abroad'7) was also present and spoke briefly to the con vention. The people of Harnett always listen with pleasure to him. We expect to send Up a good report from Harnett in November. X. The Registrars of election.
